Classic Championship Wrestling - Event Wrap-up 12.19.06
CCW Commissioner Chris Alexander had seen, and heard, enough, as he entered the ring, letting the champ know as much in no uncertain terms! Going on to let Derrick know that not only did he have nowhere to run and hide, the travel plans that prevented Jon Heidenreich from making his anticipated CCW debut would not give his recent partner-in-crime Flash Flanagan the night off, even if it was the Commissioner in the ring opposing Flanagan. Unfortunately for Alexander, he would turn his back for just a second to leave the ring, and as we have seen in the past from Derrick, that is all the time he needs, as he would level the Commissioner with a belt shot to the back of the head! Racing to the ring would be Johnny Spade, hell bent for any piece of Derrick he could get, going after him with a 2x4. Both locker rooms would clear to pull the men apart, which still proved no easy feat, as the ring would play host to chaos for the next several minutes. That main event preview would only scrape the surface as to the action in store for the fans as Classic Championship Wrestling kicked off their last Tuesday night lineup of the year!
The Prophet (w/JesseBell) vs. Kliff Hanger in Match #2 of the Best of 3 Series for the CCW Heavyweight Title #1 Contendership - Prophet leads 1-0:
As the war drums sounded, that could mean only one thing- JesseBell was leading The Prophet to the ring. As the Portland fans proceeded to let the pretty young manager know exactly how they felt about her, Prophet was no doubt looking to put away Kliff Hanger and the Series, looking ahead to a shot at the Heavyweight championship.
While it may have been win or go home for Kliff Hanger, he wasn't letting on, taking the time to throw a few presents to the children in attendance! When the bell sounded, "The Black Redneck" quickly dropped the Santa act, pouring everything he had on the Prophet in the opening minute. Never that easy an opponent, Prophet soon countered, and the match soon became a wild, back and forth affair.
Countering a top rope attack by Prophet and turning it into a DDT, Kliff would then swarm his opponent, much to the horror of JesseBell, watching from the corner as the vital, need-to-have win seemed to be slipping away!
Catching a crucial second wind, Prophet would go on the offensive, turning up the volume and breaking off the knob, scoring several elbow drops and other high impact moves. When this would fail to produce a three count, Prophet would go right back to the time-honored catalog of blatant chokes.
Rallying back, Kliff Hanger would turn this into a photo finish, showing just a bit of his dark side as the anger mounted as he attempted to even the series and stay in the chase for the CCW Heavyweight title. Down but not out, Prophet battled back, connecting with a big middle-rope legdrop for a near-fall. The fans would continue to rally behind Kliff Hanger, erupting from their seats as he would pull one out of nowhere, rolling up Prophet with a small package to snag the win! With a third and final match in store, to what lengths will either man go to earn the CCW Heavyweight title shot as well as absolute bragging rights? Not to mention the bickering between JesseBell and The Prophet in the last couple of weeks.
Winner of the Match: Kliff Hanger, by pinfall, evening the series at 1 win apiece.
Elmore Fudd (w/Elma Fudd) & The Regulator vs. Jebediah Blackhawk & Dez:
The evening's first tag team attraction featured Elmore Fudd, back in action with The Regulator, squaring off with Jebediah Blackhawk and Dez. While Fudd and Regulator were impressive in action last week, it was hard to weigh their chances against Blackhawk, looking for a measure of revenge against Regulator for his attack two weeks ago, and Dez, a speedy newcomer to CCW who seems to be building a pretty fair fan base early.
Dez would start out against Fudd, who definitely looked to take away the speed factor early, but his opponent was more than ready for this match, and in a matter of no-time, Dez and Blackhawk were tagging frequently, and putting their opponents on the defensive. Making his way into the match, Regulator would proceed to impose his physical will on Dez. Fudd and Regulator would then look to put things solidly in their favor, as they would batter the smaller of their opponents mercilessly, often employing the numbers game with Elma Fudd at every opportune moment, and perhaps key, keep Blackhawk out of the match.
Finally making it into the ring, Blackhawk would ignite a spark in his team, if only momentarily, as order would break down soon after. Elma Fudd, on the ring apron once again, would catch a right from Dez, mindful of her hand in the match. Keeping Mr. and Mrs. Fudd busy, Blackhawk would get his measure of payback against the big man from Detroit, scoring the pin after a chokeslam!
While Jebediah Blackhawk got his revenge on The Regulator tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't seen the end of this. As for Regulator and Fudd, even with things not quite going their way tonight, I wouldn't say we've seen the end of this team yet, as well.
Winners of the Match: Jebediah Blackhawk and Dez, by pinfall
"Playboy" Scott Hayes vs. Matt Maverick:
Hayes, in singles action this week, ignored what seemed to be quite a bit of flashbulb as he entered the ring to face off with Matt Maverick, a man looking to prove the critics wrong in recent weeks.
Hayes would start the match trying to rally the crowd to his side, but the CCW faithful looked to be leaning in the direction of Maverick as referee James Hardin called for the bell. Working with that bit of momentum, Maverick seemed to be working just a step quicker than Hayes, as the Playboy would soon regroup out on the arena floor. Maverick would continue to control the pace of the match until falling victim to Hayes' ring presence colliding shoulder-first with the corner post.
Taking Maverick outside the ring, Hayes would use the ring as a weapon, bouncing his opponent's head off the ring apron a couple of times before throwing him back in for some hard right hand shots and some blatant chokes. While Maverick looked to be having a hard time trying to get back into the match, before I had even finished writing that note, Maverick would rally in the biggest way, rolling up Hayes to score a win from out of nowhere! I'm still not sure the Playboy knew what hit him. Maverick, who can only go up after a win against an seasoned challenger like Scott Hayes, still has a few more positive performances before he can start swinging more favor from this reporter, and only time will tell if he can keep the roll going when Classic Championship Wrestling returns to action January 9, 2007.
Winner of the Match: Matt Maverick, by pinfall
Apollo, Tommy "T-Dawg" Morrison, and El Oro Guapo vs. The Brute Squad (K-Lo, Guido Andretti, and Randy Royal):
A six-man tag team match was up next, as The Brute Squad was back in action and none too pleased about losing the CCW Tag Team titles last week, and who better to take that bad week out on than the impromptu team of T-Dawg, the HNIC's Apollo, and El Oro Guapo, the masked man from some place I probably can't pronounce. Only having been a fan of six-man tag matches, I knew this one would not fail to impress.
K-Lo would start out with T-Dawg, showing his nasty mood early by not only using a handful of hair to gain control of Morrison, but ripping off the ex-boxer's gloves and wearing him out with them! The Brute Squad would completely dominate in the early stages of this match, as all three members would have their way with Morrison, and then El Guapo Oro before the bottom would fall out.
Tagging in, Apollo would proceed to give a quick "lesson" to his partners, trying to get his team back in the match and keep them there. Before long, as is customary in six-man tags, all six men would begin battling away at the same time. As referee Paul Wood struggled to regain control, Apollo would catch K-Lo hung up on the top rope, seizing the opportunity and delivering a thunderous DDT to grab the three count. The Brute Squad may have let their tempers take away focus just a bit, and the group will definitely be plotting something new to try to resume their winning ways.
Winners of the Match: Apollo, Tommy "T-Dawg" Morrison, and El Oro Guapo, by pinfall
Cujo vs. Biff Wellington III:
Live action resumed from the intermission with the frat packer, Biff Wellington III, looking to break "The Baddest Dog in the Yard," Cujo. As advertised, as expected, the capacity crowd was out of there feet as BW3 made his entrance.
From the bell, Wellington strategy was clear- get the big man down and keep him there. BW3 was firing on all cylinders, although a quick-thinking Cujo managed to avoid the dreaded Ole! kick. Raking the eyes, Cujo would mount his first serious offense of the match, planting Wellington with a side slam before using a series of illegal chokes to not only wear him down, but severely test the patience of referee Suave JimBob. Staying on top of his opponent, Cujo would grow restless as Wellington refused to run out of steam. The crowd's support would rally BW3, but only for a moment, as both men would collide, leaving both men struggling to regain their footing as well as control in the match!
Wellington would recover to land several punches and a big elbow, following that with some hard forearm shots and a clothesline, perhaps using his last burst of energy to try a finish it off, doing just that, pinning Cujo after an inverted stunner. Wellington, coming off a recent CCW title shot, looks to be aiming at another shot down the road, but don't count Cujo out of contention for either title in Classic Championship Wrestling.
Winner of the Match: Biff Wellington III, by pinfall
CCW Tag Team Champions The Fat N The Furious vs. Colt Steele and Izzy Foreal:
Back in action for the first time since regaining the CCW Tag Team titles, The Fat N The Furious were ready for action as they hit the ring to face the mutt and jeff combo of bruiser Colt Steele and cruiserweight Izzy Foreal, both making their CCW in-ring debuts, making for an interesting match-up on paper as the bell sounded.
The champs were looking good early, not looking overly impressed with the team of Steele and Foreal. Trying to gain a little bit of respect, as well as level ground in the match, Steele and Foreal would double team Vito Andretti, setting their own pace and even scoring the first near-fall of the match. Not only would a missed Foreal moonsault bring the beginning of a victory for the Champs, but a surprising turn of events that would leave everybody talking long after the show ended.
Tagging in from the missed moonsault, Jack Black would rampage, pinning Foreal for the win using a little assist from the ropes, unbeknown to referee Paul Wood. Vito would then argue with Black over the tactics, which he deemed unnecessary. Having no luck with partner, Andretti when argue with Wood, letting him know how the pin went down! Furious, Black stood by at ringside, telling Vito to handle it if he wanted the match restarted, which Vito would win shortly afterward, pinning Steele following a neckbreaker. Black would then head to the locker room, his tag belt in hand, leaving Vito Andretti standing alone in the ring, trying to figure out what the hell's going on. Your guess is as good as mine as to what the situation with this situation is going to be a couple of weeks from now.
Winners of the Match: CCW Tag Team Champions The Fat N The Furious, by pinfall
Flash Flanagan vs. Chris Alexander:
With Jon Heidenreich stranded due to travel problems, CCW Commissioner Chris Alexander would step in to take the former WWE Tag Team Champion's place in a big-time showdown against the returning Flash Flanagan.
While the match had every ounce of potential to be a back and forth affair, Flanagan would take control in a big way, smothering Alexander with move after move. It's been a challenging few weeks for the Commissioner, and it was no small challenge for Alexander to get back into the match. Flanagan's reputation precedes him, and for good reason.
Finding a break in the clouds, Chris Alexander would rally, fighting back within seconds of winning the match, but Flanagan, showing his ring presence, got a foot on the bottom rope to break the count. Escaping to the outside, Flanagan would grab a chair from a member of ringside security, then blasting him with it before taking it to the ring to go after Alexander! Encountering more resistance than he had planned on, Flanagan would call it a night, and with Alexander in pursuit, the ref had no choice but to count both men out!
Result of the Match: Double Count Out
CCW Heavyweight Championship, Falls Count Anywhere: CCW Champion Dynamite Derrick defending against "Smooth" Johnny Spade (with Miss Holly Wood):
Dressed for a fight and carrying a steel chair, "Smooth" Johnny Spade came to the ring resolute. This was the chance he had been waiting for, a shot at the CCW Heavyweight championship, and this time in a Falls Count Anywhere match! With no where to run or hide, Dynamite Derrick must have heard a hell of a weather forecast, as he had possession of not only a snow shovel, but a bullwhip as well! The fans were already on the edge of their seats, as this is an early Christmas present they had been waiting on since August, and they didn't even have to wait to unwrap it.
Spade came out swinging, tearing into the champ with not only everything he had, but everything he could get his hands on. Reaching deep for a clothesline, Derrick was more than willing to return the favor, but Spade would find the steel chair, delivering one incredible move after another, including a corner-to-corner dropkick to the chair, covering "the Old School Player's" face at the time! With the Heavyweight championship on the line, Derrick wasn't even going to let the damage Spade was inflicting stop him there, reversing an Irish whip and hitting a drop toe hold to drive the challenger face first into the chair.
Taking the fight to the floor, Derrick would keep the pressure building, delivering a hard suplex to the unforgiving arena floor, although he would miss a huge frog splash involving a chair, threatening the advantage he was enjoying at that point. Recovering, Derrick would connect with the Super Playa Kick, yet even that was not enough to put away Spade. A collision with the ref would open the door for Derrick to try and pull another fast one on his most persistent challenger. Delivering a crushing spinebuster to Spade, Derrick would hit the floor again, this time to get a table from under the ring!
Sliding into the ring, Miss Holly Wood would desperately try to revive Spade as Derrick was setting up the table. Trying to stop the champ from putting the table in play would land the beautiful manager more abuse, as Derrick threw her down by the hair. The straw that had broken Miss Holly Wood's back had happened long ago, but this was the single best shot she'd had for revenge on Dynamite Derrick yet, and you better believe she took it, hitting him with the chair as he tried to place Spade on the table. With Derrick now on the table instead, Spade would hit a huge legdrop from the top rope to drive him through the table and gain the three count, finally achieving the CCW Heavyweight Championship and the last word over Dynamite Derrick!
Winner of the Match: "Smooth" Johnny Spade, by pinfall, to become the NEW Classic Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Champion
