Somaliland and The Two Lost Professors - The Samatar Brothers

Abdulazez Al-Motairi
Wonders never cease! The amount of money spent on beating a dead, defunct entity like the old Somali Republic is staggering. I am sure everyone loves a good conference at an all expenses paid resort in a warm climate, per-diems, return tickets and so forth, but these new proposal are beyond a joke.

Let us get one thing clear, neither the Arab community nor two lost professors in Minnesota will make a dent in Somaliland's march towards peace and stability. We have a constitution, a democratically elected government, democratic institutions and the will power to resist any external influence.

I must say though, you have admire the lost professors´ tenacity. They have lost touch with the reality on the ground from their perch in Minnesota. I know how things are overseas, everyone is an armchair warrior, but the moment they set foot in the region, whether it is Somaliland or Somalia, they come to their senses.

The lost professors have been so long away from the country, Somaliland, that for them everything is so simple in their comfortable lives in the good old US of A. Good food, money, nice warm shelter, everything is easy and simple. They have not experienced the trauma of the civil war, the struggle to rebuild the country, the quest for peace, building a nation, and the continuing daily struggle to build a better life.

To the lost professors, just for once, come to Somaliland, no one will harm you, no one will kill, you belong to a community within Somaliland, you are educated men, come home, see the reality for yourselves, talk to the people, then perhaps, you can come to your senses.

To the lost professors, come and argue your case in Hargeysa, Borama, Burco, Berbera, Ceerigaabo, Laas Canood. Get off your high perch in Minnesota, leave your comforts there, and come and see the reality and the aspirations of the people of Somaliland.

There is no point in going on the VOA, BBC, Al-Jazira, etc, if you are unwilling to visit your homeland, which you spend so much time trying to make decisions for.

To the lost professors, you may be anti-Somaliland, but you have not personally spilled any Somali blood, no one will harm you, come and see the reality, be men, come home to your place of birth and talk to the people, instead of gossiping in the restaurants of the Twin cities.

If you are unable to do so, then find something else to occupy your spare time.
