Cindy Sheehan Heroine, or Hypocrite

Ken Hughes
For those willing to make the deaths of our soldiers a political issue, Cindy Sheehan is a heroine. Most would prefer she go away, they feel as I do she’s disrespecting the sacrifices our men and women are making. Cindy Sheehan and her Liberal Democratic sponsors are out of line. Rumor has it she’s being paid $20,000 to sit in protest against the president. She seem to care less about the sacrifices her son was evidently willing to make than she is about becoming the nations new, 15 minutes of fame. Her son served in a volunteer army, every soldier knows the risks, most are willing to take them to preserve freedom anywhere in the world they’re asked to go. Men like Casey Sheehan Cindy’s son aren’t concerned with skin color, religion, political beliefs, they’re concerned with life and death, regardless of who and where. Casey Sheehan re-enlisted knowing he’d be deployed to serve a tour in Iraq. Casey Sheehan is a hero there’s no doubt about that. I question his mothers motives, are they principle or cash? Casey Sheehan chose to be a soldier, not once but twice. For his mother to use his death as a political statement is disrespecting the choice he made and gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Cindy Sheehan, is obviously easily manipulated, in her first encounter with President Bush she gave him high marks for his concern for the men and women killed in Iraq. Now a few months later she’s turned those feelings into an entirely different opinion of the president’s assurances. The question is what or who changed her mind? I just finished reading her interview with the Liberal web_magazine, Buss Flash. Her comments to the interviewer gave the feelings of her son Casey the opposite of her protest now. Casey was a dedicated soldier who knew the mission and its dangers. He was willing to do his job as a soldier in spite of the danger. Casey Sheehan is what hero’s are made of.

I have no way of knowing if Cindy Sheehan’s feelings are real or manipulated, I suspect the later. I know her son Casey can’t be very proud of the way his mother is conducting herself now. Considering what he gave for his country Cindy Sheehan is making a mockery out of his death.

For those who blame President Bush for an illegal war, I would remind all of you, no one has defined what a WMD, looks like, smells like, and feels like. In my opinion, the troops found WMDs in Iraq. Saddam, his two sons, and a hundred or so of his associates. America’s fighting the war on terror where terror exists in the Mid-East, not in the streets of America. What America is fighting in our own streets is a political battle that has no regard for the men and women who are actually in physical harms way. There’ll always be those who have a better, safer, cleaner, cheaper way to conduct wars, usually they’re the ones who’ve never stood the test of battle. We call them Liberal Congresspersons.

Picture this country if the Minute Men said This isn’t worth it and gone home, If Abraham Lincoln had looked at the polls and decided the public was 67.25 % in favor of slavery. If President Monroe hadn’t drawn the line across the Atlantic baring European occupation of any part of the Americas. What if at Normandy our troops had deiced the cost in lives was to high a price to pay and gone back to England. There are examples to be made from ever conflict we have ever been involved in. There isn’t a war in our history that didn’t have dissenters, thank God they were never in the majority. Cindy Sheehan has a right to express her feelings, and we have a right to question her motives. Her family has requested she not make such a spectral of Casey’s death. Her family believes she’s disrespecting what Casey believed and died for. Her family is also Casey’s family and has a say as well.

Unfortunately, Cindy Sheehan’s demonstration is politics at it worst.
