Why Obama?

Stan Grimes
One hears a great deal of speculation about Barak Obama's sudden popularity among Democrats and even some Republicans. Analysts have said it's because he is black and others have said he is a neo Ronald Reagan. Still others have said it's because he is young and handsome, has a great presence around others, and can give America back to the people.

All of these statements are true in my mind, but what has struck me most about the young man is his message. Mr. Obama reminds me of two young men named Kennedy. One of these brothers became the first Roman Catholic President of our country, his message…hope. He said, "Ask not what your country can do for you - - ask what you can do for your country. John F. Kennedy offered hope to a country that thirsted for hope and sorely needed a new beginning. His younger brother, Robert, offered the same message. He gave Americans a sense that there was hope, a door to equality and good times. Robert Kennedy advocated for the poor and the minorities of this nation. Both brothers were assassinated. Why? Could it be someone out there wants to prevent hope from seeping back into the heart of America?

Barak Obama offers a nation mired in war, breaking at the seams with bipartisanism, and at war with its middle class and its poor, hope for a better future. If we have ever needed a Barak Obama in this country it is now. A nation suffering with a life threatening fever needs a large aspirin in the form of Mr. Obama. We need a hero, a man who tells us that everything is going to work out. We need a healer, an optimist, and not necessarily a decider. We need a man who will tell the poor person there is a job waiting for them and a man who will tell the middle class citizens that they will be able to keep their homes or maybe buy a home. A man who will tell the old Whitehouse cronies to either do their jobs or get out of town.

Barak Obama offers exuberance, excitement, and hope. I will vote for him if he happens to throw his hat into the presidential ring. I need hope. I want to keep my home. I want to retire and not work until I am dead. I want my freedom to privacy back. The people of the United States must return to the United States of 1776, a nation of hope and inspiration. Can Barak Obama give us a renewed belief that America is the greatest nation in the world? Only voters can offer the answer.
