WHETHER IT´S THE ECONOMY, OR LISTENING TO BECK & PALIN, IT´S VERY BIZARRE OUT THERE
…Glen Beck, the self-declared "Rodeo Clown"
After watching all the video clips and reading about the Beck / Palin: "Restoring Honor", BECKSTER´S PALOOZA at the Lincoln Memorial, and then listening to the latest prognostications on the US economy, all one can say is that "it´s really a crazy time out there".
Beck has now said that he was so dense that he didn´t even know, and no one told him that August 28, was the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr´s, "I Have A Dream" speech, one of the most famous and renowned speeches in US History. And then he still refused to change the date of his rally when he found out it was the 47th anniversary of the speech.
Beck said in his speech that it was finally time to get back to God and he was continually stressing that the government just continues to wrongly keep telling all us free Americans "what to do with our lives". But then, on his daily cable TV program, he usually ends it with saying something like, "Now here´s what you should all do". He then proceeds to give everyone specific orders such as "Go attend a Tea Party," or "Turn-off the TV and pray", or "Go join a church". And many times, his advice is much more specific or divisive than these simple instructions.
Beck was also continually stating to his radio and TV audiences, before his big Washington Mall Rally, that his national get-together was for "Restoring America´s Honor". Yet, at no time, did he talk about how or when we Americans had lost our honor…..?
Did we lose it when our then Commander-in-Chief ordered an attack on a country that had done nothing to us and was not a serious threat to our security? Was it when our president lied to the country about possible nuclear and biological threats this threat-less dictator posed for America? Was it when the previous administration allowed the deregulation that eventually caused millions of Americans to lose their life´s savings, retirement funds and some to even lose their homes? Was it when the people then in charge let the one person responsible for the 911 disaster, escape into the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan and to then turn away from that pursuit for four straight years?
Just when was it that this country lost its so called, "Honor"?
And when the media reporters walked through the Washington Mall after the rally, what did the people have to say to those reporters? Were there comments about God and restoring our honor?
Well no, the comments were more in line with, "All Liberals should be shot". One individual was videoed saying, "If Obama tries to take my gun away, he can have it…. one bullet at a time! " And another couple of the rally´s attendees were "just fine with a terrorist carrying a gun, as long as they weren´t disobeying the law"…..? (Wouldn´t being a known terrorist already be breaking the law….?)
Since President Obama has said nothing about going after anyone´s gun, and since he has already signed specific orders that have loosened the rules for Americans to carry a gun while on government property, I find these comments more than just a bit…..(here it comes)…….."bizarre".
Then there´s the latest talk about the economy.
The administration is still too shy or hesitant to admit that this is not a real economic recovery. In addition, they refuse to admit that they caved in too early to the conservatives with a too small stimulus package and by allowing tax cuts into the package that did nothing to stimulate jobs, even the temporary ones that could be offered by the government.
Yes, it is true that the country´s GDP is showing some upward movement, but a real "recovery"?.......hardly. The Fed and the Treasury Department keep saying that "Were on the road to recovery!", but unfortunately, we´re not. Yes, the numbers are getting a bit better, but a real recovery means "jobs, jobs, jobs", and that just ain´t happening today. At least, not yet
Oh, I know, the administration could never have gotten the properly sized stimulus passed through in the Senate anyway. And the current Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, made that very clear even before the president took office. This became obvious when he stated right after the election that the Republicans would be "obstructing everything that the Democrats would try to get passed in the Senate". And the GOP politicians have stuck to that promise. Regardless of whether it was good for the country and its citizens, as Senator McConnell stated, "If the Democrats try to pass it, we conservatives will block it!"
There is also this on-going, fundamental difference between the Dems and the GOP.
Put three Democrats in a room, and there will be three different opinions and they will argue amongst themselves. Put three Republicans in a room, and even if they have three different opinions, they will immediately join together, just to disagree with the Democrats. Unfortunately, the Dems would never do this against the Republicans.
So with all these stalemates in process, just what can the Dems do?
Well, while they still have the majority of power in the House and with the White House, they can use this advantage with the government organizations such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to help homeowners with refinancing programs. They can finally grow some back-bone in dealing with China and their overall monetary manipulation. They can work also with the FED to make sure money is seriously made available to the smaller banks.
But while they are doing this, they must start telling the truth to the country about the economy and what the conservatives are doing to obstruct it. And they must also keep drilling-in what still needs to be done to turn it around.
Nothing will change until they admit that this is NOT a real recovery and what it will take to make it a real one.
