FYROM organisations demand end to name negotiations with Greece

Australian Macedonian Advisory Council
The Australian ´Macedonian´ Human Rights committee (AMHRC) (based in Melbourne, Australia) and the ´Macedonian´ Human Rights Movement International (MHRMI) (based in Toronto, Canada) have demanded (August 19, 2010) an end to all name negotiations with Greece. They have released an ad titled ´Our Name is Macedonia´ (http://www.mhrmi.org/our_name_is_macedonia), which will appear in print and online editions of major newspapers, television commercials and billboards in Skopje, FYROM as well as thousands of flyers which are being distributed throughout the country.

The MHRMI and AMHRC are calling on people in the FYROM, to ´join their call´ for FYROM to immediately cease name negotiations and demand immediate international recognition. They claim that this ad campaign is not about embracing or rejecting NATO and EU membership, but about "ending non-sensical name negotiations".

The Australian Macedonian Advisory Council (AMAC) disapproves and denounces the ad campaign produced by the two aforementioned organisations. This ad campaign will only inflame tensions to an already volatile issue and political climate in FYROM, making a compromise through negotiations only more difficult to achieve.
