Techniques In Preventing Moldy Front Load Washer Problem

Front load washers are considered better than top load washers because of their enhanced efficiency. But top loaders take the cake when it comes to preventing molds from appearing. Majority of those people who complain of moldy washer problems are front load owners.

Unlike a top load washing machine, a front loader has horizontal drum axis that defies gravity. Because water does not directly drain through gravity, some of the water used for rinsing is still inside the machine. And because the front load door of the machine gets in the way, it is often left closed. This creates an opportunity for molds and other micro organisms to grow.

To lessen moldy washer problems, here are couple of techniques you might want to try:

1. Leave the front door open all the time. If air penetrates inside the drum, it will dry up the moist areas of the washer. It is unlikely for molds to grow in an airy environment. If the front door occupies a lot of space in your laundry area, you can use folded towels and lodge it at the bottom part of the door. This will keep the door opened partway so air can still penetrate inside.

2. Spray lemon juice mist inside the drum after washing. Lemon juice keeps your washer fresh and clean all the time and its acidity can lessen the appearance of micro organisms. You can squeeze the juice of one lemon and then add equal parts water. Pour the solution in a spray bottle. Wipe the washer drum with a clean cloth and proceed to spraying it with lemon juice solution. Also spray lemon juice on the rubber gasket since this is usually the part where molds develop.

3. Run an empty water cycle in the highest water temperature. Add about a cup of white vinegar. You can increase the amount of vinegar if you have severe molds problems. Also add half a bag of baking soda to diffuse moldy odor. Vinegar has a way of dissolving or loosening up accumulated molds.

4. Keep the washer dry all the time. Always have a clean towel nearby to wipe the washer drum after using it. Get rid of the excess detergent residues which also cause washer odor. After drying with a towel, leave the front door open for about 15 minutes.

Since moldy washer smell is far from being pleasant, you have to keep your washer smelling fresh and clean all the time. Follow these simple tips and you can avoid molds formation.
