Classic Championship Wrestling Event Wrap-up 12.5.06
CCW Owner Marcus then made his way to the ring, first delivering the news that due to sudden illness, Chris Alexander was unable to make the show, and he would be filling in to keep things honest. That out of the way, he made it clear in no uncertain terms that the match had been officially sanctioned by Alexander, so it would go on as scheduled, with Royal to be handcuffed to a member of CCW Ringside Security, instead! Word that the matcch was on was the green light, as Jack Black and Vito Andretti stormed the ring, clearing out The Brute Squad. While Royal seemed to be in favor of avoiding the match, even at the expense of the Tag Team titles, K-Lo and Guido, in possession of the belts, didn't seem quite as agreeable, given the war they have fought to gain the belts in the first place! Whether or not he liked it, Randy Royal was going to see the Tag titles on the line tonight!
Dez vs. Tommy "T-Dogg" Foreman:
While no information on either man was available before the show, the match looked to be a solid contest between two men making their Classic Championship Wrestling in-ring debuts. Dez looked to be in good shape and in high spirits as the ever-present Tim the Baker escorted Tommy "T-Dogg" Foreman. Foreman, who looked as though he's seen a few battles here and there, might have been a little off the script as to where he was, as he was in full boxing attire, gloves included! Apparently, the referee didn't seem to mind, and the match was on!
Taking a couple of wild swings at the onset was not doing Foreman any favors, as Dez kept on the offensive, keeping the erstwhile boxer off-balance with a fast-paced arsenal, soon driving T-Dogg to the arena floor. Taking the gloves off, Foreman would pepper his smaller opponent with the same hard lefts and rights he had no doubt been thinking of with the gloves on! Continuing to dish out the punishment with high-impact moves, T-Dogg was in solid control until a quick-thinking Dez would bring his knees up at just the right moment.
While he would attempt to rally, the comeback Dez's second wind provided would prove too much, and before he could try to regroup, Foreman would fall for the pin, courtesy of a sunset flip by Dez. While these two newcomers provided an entertaining opening to the evening, I got to go on record as openly agreeing with the crowd. Hey. Foreman. Keep that CENSORED shirt on!
Winner of the Match: Dez, by pinfall
Kliff Hanger vs. The Regulator:
Preparing all week for the huge first match with The Prophet in their Best of 3 Series to earn a CCW Heavyweight Title shot, one could only imagine how far off his game plan Kliff Hanger might have been, finding out he was to face The Regulator instead, due to an unforeseen travel problem for Prophet.
Locking up at the opening bell, Regulator looked to use his size and strength advantages, powering Kliff Hanger to the canvas with two big bodyslams. Taking a crack at a slam of his own would backfire, as Regulator would nearly score a pinfall after Kliff buckled under his opponent's weight!
Showing a more aggressive, methodical style than in recent weeks, Regulator would not relent, tossing "The Black Redneck" from corner to corner. Looking to end it, Regulator would climb to the top, only to crash and burn as Kliff rolled out of the way at the last second, although the big man from Detroit was back on the attack quickly, as Kliff could not capitalize. With the roll he was on, Regulator did the unthinkable, pulling Kliff Hanger up at the ref's two count! That momentary lapse of reason would cost him big time, as Kliff Hanger would roll up the Regulator for the win instead!
Winner of the Match: Kliff Hanger, by pinfall
Following the match, Regulator vented some frustration, eventually shoving referee Suave JimBob to the canvas, and then doing the same thing to Kliff, even after helping him up and congratulating him for the win! Maybe the up/down nature of his stay in CCW thus far is starting to grind on the big man, and it looks like he's ready to try a different method to gain success. I can't say it looks like a bad move. Stay tuned on the Regulator...
"Smooth" Johnny Spade would then light up the crowd by hitting the ring. Promising the fans he had not forgotten about Dynamite Derrick and the CCW Heavyweight Championship, Spade would have went on, but the CCW Champion had joined him, albeit at ringside. Reminding Spade that he had defeated him "fair and square," Derrick also told him not to worry about who the champion was going to be December 19, cause Biff Wellington III was not going to be a problem, and neither was Spade come Dec. 19. While the usual tension was building, Marcus arrived on the scene, informing Spade and Derrick both that no matter who was going to be Champion Dec.19, Spade would be facing that man for the title!
Matt Maverick vs. Apollo:
Back in singles competition, the always-vocal Apollo was back, spreading his gospel of a quick victory for an equally quick exit from Portland. On his way to the ring for action was Matt Maverick, who didn't look like he was buying much into the Gospel According to Apollo.
While Apollo would try to make friendly with Maverick early on, the young man from Shively, Kentucky was intent on taking a win from the HNIC powerhouse, staying in control for virtually the entire match, only to have fate intervene at the last moment in a shocking turn of events. From literally out of nowhere, Apollo would hit a devastating spinning sidewalk slam, scoring the pin with his only big offensive move of the match!
While I have been a vocal supporter of Maverick in this column over the last several months, it is hard to ignore the feeling that Maverick is starting to slide into a rut just a bit, and with the action heating up, this may be the worst possible time for a slump. Only time will tell...
Winner of the Match: Apollo, by pinfall
Jebidiah Blackhawk vs. Elmore Fudd (w/ mrs. Elma Fudd):
Looking like he had tracked whatever it was he'd stepped in all over the place, Elmore Fudd definitely not in the mood for the fans' taunts. As a result of his boasting at the Dec. 2 Pro-Am Slam event, he was now to be facing Jebidiah Blackhawk, only with one arm tied behind his back! The resistance from The Fudds was considerable, but in the end, faced with no choice, Fudd was soon across the ring from an obviously amused, but revenge-minded Jebidiah Blackhawk!
Raring to go, Fudd immediately rolled out of the ring at the opening bell. While it may not have seemed like much of a plan, it was sparing a likely beating at the hands of Blackhawk. Didn't have much of a shelf-life, either, as the ten count soon forced Fudd back into the ring - to face the music. Blackhawk would commence to throwing a beatdown on Fudd. Interjecting herself, Mrs. Fudd would play a key role in this match, allowing Fudd to score a low blow behind the referee's back, giving him ample opportunity to loosen his restricted left arm a bit!
Taking control of the match, Fudd would try anything he could to get back into the match, but he could not find enough purchase with the rope to capitalize fully. In a matter of moments, Blackhawk was back on the assault, leaving the fans little doubt as to where this match was heading.
Having seen enough, Mrs. Fudd would enter the ring, only to be taken by the throat by Blackhawk, as if he was going to chokeslam her! Coming to her rescue, Fudd would meet the same fate, bringing the crowd to its feet at the prospect of a double chokeslam to the Fudds, Blackhawk would show some class, simply knocking Mrs. Fudd on her rump as he would deliver the chokeslam in earnest, scoring the pin and putting an end to the one-armed challenge of Elmore Fudd. No one would see this coming, but as Blackhawk was celebrating his win, The Regulator would hit the scene, laying him out for reasons still unknown as this column went to press. Whether or not The Fudds had anything to do this remains to be seen, but don't act too surprised to see this partnership again somewhere on down the road.
Winner of the Match: Jebidiah Blackhawk
"Smooth" Johnny Spade & Miss Holly Wood vs. Cujo & Felony Foxx:
The first-ever mixed tag team match in Classic Championship Wrestling history definitely had its share of combustible elements as Foxx and Miss Holly Wood would finally collide in the ring for the first time, in addition to the ongoing battle of late between Johnny Spade and Cujo.
Cujo and Spade started out, and it would be all Spade, as he was ready to pull out all the stops, even launching a big top-rope dropkick before the match was even two minutes old! Reversing the momentum, Cujo would tag in Foxx, who took obvious delight in taking two stiff shots at Spade's ribs. Quickly finding herself in a bad situation, Foxx barely managed to escape as Spade dragged her to his corner to tag in Miss Holly Wood.
Mixing it up well, Miss Holly Wood would soon wind up on the business end of a punishing offense from the dangerous redhead, including a Boston crab that surely would have ended it, if not for Miss Holly Wood's proximity to the ropes. Things would look grim for the petite blond indeed as Foxx would tag Cujo back in, leaving her to face a devastating powerslam! Wriggling free, she would make the tag to Spade, just the spark their corner needed and just in the nick of time. As both teams took to the ring, Miss Holly Wood would hit a stunner on Foxx to take the victory!
Winners of the Match: "Smooth" Johnny Spade & Miss Holly Wood, by pinfall
CCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - The Brute Squad (K-Lo & Guido Andretti) defending against The Fat N The Furious (Jack Black & Vito Andretti):
Bringing the CCW faithful to its feet, The Fat N The Furious came to the ring beyond angry, beyond vengeful, and beyond intent on becoming the first two-time CCW Tag Team Champions. With the controversial title loss from Dec. 2 still fresh in their minds, there was no way Black and Andretti was going to go quietly. With their entrance music filling the arena, Randy Royal came out, at least as far as ringside, stalling (maybe for his life!). As the anger mounted with the challengers, the stall tactic paid off, as K-Lo and Guido Andretti came storming through the audience to attack the FNF from behind! Delivering several punishing shots with the title belts to the foreheads of Vito and Jack, the champs clearly had their escape route planned, before Marcus hit ringside to try and restore order! Forcing Royal to be handcuffed to a member of ringside security, Marcus ordered referee Jeremy MacKenzie to call for the bell and start the match.
With a head of steam in their favor as the match began, the champs set about dissecting Vito Andretti, already weakened from the attack. Looking to end it early, K-Lo went up top, Jack Black raced over to topple him from the top rope, allowing Vito the opportunity he needed, as he speared Guido to give him the chance to desperately tag in the big man! Having already been jumped, and then forced to watch as his partner took even more punishment, Black went ballistic, hitting the BlackOut on Guido as all four men remained in the ring battling away. After crossing corners to splash the champs, The Fat N The Furious would wind up with a moral victory, which normally isn't bad, but this victory would not include the tag team titles, as The Brute Squad would steal Randy Royal and head toward the back, losing the match by countout! Demanding Marcus, the challengers wanted their two minutes with Royal, as stipulated due to the win! Royal, no doubt, couldn't wait to escape Portland with his hide, if he could!
While Royal would, in fact, make it out of Portland unscathed, next week he may not as lucky, as Marcus booked a tag team Dog Collar match for the CCW Tag Team Championship for the December 12! The two minutes with Randy Royal stipulation remains a factor in this latest chapter in one of CCW's most violent feuds, one that will no doubt leave the fans talking for weeks to come!
Winners of the Match: The Fat N The Furious, by countout, as The Brute Squad retains the CCW Tag Team Championship.
CCW Heavyweight Championship - Dynamite Derrick defending against Biff Wellington III:
Biff Wellington hit ringside to a standing ovation as he was finally getting his chance to face Dynamite Derrick, and this time with Derrick's heavyweight title on the line! This was a case study in what might have been for BW3, as he first shot at the title ended with a pre-match knee injury in the CCW title tournament, just as he was to face Dynamite Derrick.
Derrick, who looked confident as ever, would run headlong into a fired-up Wellington, who steamrolled the champ with Thesz presses, chops, and even the dreaded Ole! kick in the opening minutes of the bout!
Aiming straight for the tender right knee of his challenger, the "Old School Player" was just that, pouring on the pressure after stopping BW3 with a chop block! Taking the fight outside the ring, Derrick would use the ring apron and bottom rope as weapons to build a big-time advantage. Testing referee Jeremy MacKenzie's patience on numerous occasions, the champion was surgical as he went after the legs of the Frat Packer, clamping on a figure-four leglock, devastating Wellington at this point in the match, as he would suffer two near-falls trying to hang on.
The match, while all BW3 in the beginning, was starting to look academic for Dynamite Derrick, as whenever Wellington mounted any kind of offense, Derrick would go back to the knee. As he tried to put Wellington away, perhaps for good, wrapping his knee around the ringpost after tearing away the pad and bracing, Derrick was showing a different kind of anger in this match, but how ever different his temperament was, no one could argue with the results it was getting him. Locking in another figure-four, Derrick would force Wellington to submit, but his refusal to release the hold left MacKenzie no other choice but to reverse the decision and disqualify Dynamite Derrick instead!
Crashing the ring, "Smooth" Johnny Spade would light up Derrick, but just as he was about to hit the Spadeton, Cujo would follow, shoving Spade from the turnbuckle. In the chaos, BW3 would return to even the odds as Marcus entered the Arena once more to try and keep a handle on things. Fed up with run-ins and interference of as late, Marcus told the four if they wanted to fight so much, they would have their chance next week, as Dynamite Derrick would team with Cujo to face "Smooth" Johnny Spade and Biff Wellington III!
Winner of the Match: Biff Wellington III, by disqualification, as Dynamite Derrick retains the CCW Heavyweight Championship.
