This Is The Season

Judy Ramsook
Cooked or smoked ham on its way out of the oven, soon after comes home made bread, aromas that can indeed increase one’s breakfast appetite or take someone’s nose captive. Such are some aromas of the season, at least to begin with.

As the Christmas day wears on and the presents have been opened and are already being enjoyed by their happy recepients, some one might pop open a bottle of wine, while some one else might feel the urge for something different, maybe some liquor concoction. More so if everyone concerned has arrived at his/her holiday destination and no one will be doing any driving anytime soon.

This is the season. Whether that Christmas feeling is with you or not, it is all around us. It’s in every decoration you hang on the Christmas tree, be that tree artificial, real, tall or small.

It’s in the cake or pies that you bake at home or buy at the store. It’s in the smiles that greet you when you pass others along the way.

It’s in you when you send some one dear to you an email, text message, or instant message wishing them holiday joy as well. And It’s also in you when you send out those invitations as a satisfactory smile crosses your lips.

Even when you sigh while sitting in your car at the heavy traffic jam before you, it’s there, just hanging around in the air, for those who partake in this celebration to absorb if only for a day.

One day some people set aside to be with their families and loved ones, whether they’re going across town or travelling many miles by land, air or sea to reach their destination.

So enjoy the days that lead us all to this significant day of all days. Whether you believe in dear Santa or Father Christmas or no such figure at all, enjoy it for those who are also trying to enjoy the day and season.

One day it may be. But it’s one day out of many that brings people far and wide together in some little way or another. If you are a part of it all, be happy that you are. And a Merry Christmas to all!
