Tip 2: Open up your room's windows every morning to let the air in. This should allow air to circulate inside the room. Remove the bed covers for a while and then place them back on after a minutes.
Tip 3: Use a platform with wooden slats beneath. The slats should have about half an inch of space in between. This will allow air to circulate at the bottom part of the mattress. Usually, molds start to develop at the bottom of the bed.
Tip 4: Clean mattress stains immediately. If you accidentally spilled coffee or water, immediately remove excess moisture. Get an absorbent towel and place it on top of the stained area. Push your palms on the mattress to release excess moisture. The towel will absorb the excess moisture.
Tip 5: Use a mattress topper or mattress cover. If you have a habit of eating while lounging on your mattress, you should use mattress covers. This will protect your mattress from spills and stains.
Tip 6: Clean molds using vinegar and baking soda solution. Vinegar dissolves molds and baking soda gets rid of the smell of molds. Mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of water. Place this on a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the moldy areas of the bed. Let the solution sit there for at least one hour. After an hour, sprinkle baking soda. Baking soda can also help absorb excess mattress moisture. Let the mattress dry before using it again.
There are also some brands of mattresses with anti-mold features. These beds are made from more natural materials so molds do not easily grow in them. If you have sensitivity to micro organism and fungi, you have to choose more natural mattresses.
