Classic Championship Wrestling Pro-Am Slam Wrap-up 12.2.06
Big E and Foster Homes vs. The HNIC:
The Pro-Am Slam kicked off with The HNIC striding to ringside, ready to spread their patented brand of sunshine, courtesy of Apollo, never at a loss for words where it regards the decided lack of excitement that Apollo and JB Thunder share in having to be back in Portland. Squaring off against the HNIC was the young team of Big E and Foster Homes, showcasing two promising CCW Prospects, notably Homes, who has a fairly strong following already, given his limited in-ring appearances here at the advent of his career.
JB Thunder started off with Big E, and the mindgames were off and running almost immediately, as Thunder tried to convince referee Jeremy MacKenzie that Big E was pulling his hair, his tights, the leg of the fat lady in the front row, anything he could get away with, but MacKenzie's been around a few rings, and he wasn't buying. After a few exchanges, both men were still on equal ground, much to the quiet consternation of Thunder. Big E, while showing he can be a capable grappler, perhaps showed a bit of his inexperience by not capitalizing on a couple of opportunities when he had an advantage.
Foster Homes would enter the action at that point, only to fall victim to the double team tactics and quick tags from the seasoned veterans. Going to the well one time too many on a suplex threatened to let the momentum slip away, but Thunder recovered from the Homes reversal to make the tag back to Apollo.
As the match wore on, so did the assault on Foster Homes. Apollo, continuing to thrive on his hatred of the CCW faithful, helped Thunder crank up the pain, constantly distracting the ref to allow even more punishment to be dealt out. Attempting to end it with a sleeper, Homes rallied to the cheers, but to no avail, as the tandem from Saint Louis was not having it. In a moment of unfortunate timing for the HNIC, though, Homes would make his escape to make the desperate tag to Big E!
Big E exploded out of his corner, fighting off both Apollo and JB Thunder, but the brief flurry would be too little too late, as The HNIC would hit Homes with their devastating "N****, Please!" top-rope guillotine leg drop to allow Thunder to gain the pin. While there is no shame in losing to a team of HNIC's caliber, Big E and Foster Homes would be well served to review some match footage to maybe polish their tag team thinking. While they put in an impressive showing, they did appear tentative at times in their execution, which never helps the odds when facing fluid tag team wrestlers in Apollo and JB Thunder.
Winners of the Match: The HNIC, by pinfall
Jason X (with Brandon Scott) vs. Randy Royal:
After a controversy-filled Tuesday night, Randy Royal looked to keep things hot with a victory over Jason X. Flanked, as always, by fellow Brute Squad members K-Lo and Guido Andretti, Royal had his game face on, even though The Brute Squad is widely known for their often less-than-serious behavior during the course of a match. Accompanied to the ring by Brandon Scott, Jason X looked confident coming into the match, knowing what a win here would mean for his singles career.
Being two of CCW's bigger competitors did not appear to weigh into either man's mind, as they opened the match with a blazing pace. One would get the impression that Randy Royal was not expecting quite the resistance he got from his less-experienced opponent.
Despite Scott's presence at ringside, The Brute Squad's numbers advantage would pay off, as Royal began to bear down on Jason's back, even as his frustration mounted over not being able to figure out the key to putting Jason away for the three count.
Storming back to life with a second wind, Jason X would probably have had a much bigger rally in mind, if not for more of The Brute Squad's antics. With K-Lo distracting the referee, Guido Andretti slid a chair to Royal, who would then toss the chair to Jason X and take a dive, just as the referee turned back around. Caught red-handed with the chair in his hand, Jason could do nothing but stand there helpless, as the ref called for the bell and awarded to match to Royal via disqualification! What a bit of hard luck for the up-and-comer, who will no doubt be looking down the road to the next time his path crosses that of Randy Royal!
Winner of the Match: Randy Royal, by disqualification
Suave JimBob vs. Chris Alexander:
CCW Commissioner Chris Alexander's been spending so much time at ringside lately rumor has it his mail's being forwarded there, but tonight, the Commish was in gear, meeting CCW prospect Suave JimBob in a one-on-one match that promised a showcase of speedy arsenals.
While Suave JimBob was as fast as advertised, he managed to match Alexander move for move in the early goings, perhaps drawing out a bit of Alexander's dark side, as Alexander would soon gain control, employing some of the pages of yesteryear from his playbook. And the last page would almost prove to be the ending the Commissioner was looking for, as he would gain the pin, using the ropes for leverage. Before he could escape with the win, however, the referee restarted the match, at which point JimBob had recovered just enough to shock Alexander with a roll-up of his own for a huge win!
While Alexander may have wound up outsmarting himself just a bit tonight, expect him to be back on top of his game Tuesday night, as he will no doubt have even more on his plate trying to control the stars of CCW.
Winner of the Match: Suave JimBob, by pinfall
CCW Tag Team Championship- The Fat N The Furious defending the titles against The Brute Squad (K-Lo and Guido Andretti):
Having already stolen one win tonight, Randy Royal reemerged from the back, once again with K-Lo and Guido Andretti, only this time The Brute Squad was looking to leave the Pro-Am Slam with the Tag Team Championships. That would be no small task, as The Fat N The Furious was still steaming from the trio's actions last Tuesday night, and more than eager for revenge.
Jumping the FNF from behind, K-Lo and Guido looked to set their pace from the opening bell, but Vito Andretti and Jack Black soon returned the attack, leaving the challengers trying to reset their strategy. As they made their way back into the match, The Brute Squad had trouble breaking through, as the Tag Team Champions were running almost on autopilot. With a clothesline from Guido on the ring apron to Vito, The Brute Squad began mounting their first big offense of the match, relying on 2-on-1 and often 3-on-1 tactics to brutalize Vito. Maximizing this plan, the challengers took obvious delight in baiting Jack Black into the ring, prolonging the beatdown on Andretti. Just when things looked their darkest, from out of nowhere Vito fired back, not only breaking free from Guido, but spearing K-Lo out of midair in the same motion! With a path at last, Andretti made the tag to Black, who quickly brawled the champions back into the match.
This is when order broke down, as a quick-thinking Randy Royal low-bridged Black. K-Lo would then restrain referee Jeremy MacKenzie in the corner, giving Royal the perfect chance to level Vito with a vicious chair shot! From there, it was academic, as Guido would gain the three count to make The Brute Squad the new CCW Tag Team Champions! While the crowd remained shocked at the sudden turn of events, with K-Lo, Guido, and Royal, even a championship win doesn't mean the action ends at the bell, as they would further mug the FNF after Black tried to save his partner!
Winners of the Match: The Brute Squad, by pinfall, to become the new CCW Tag Team Champions
Before live action could resume from the intermission, The Fat N The Furious hit the ring, well, furious. How could they not be, given the events of the twenty minutes. Commandeering the ring, they wanted The Brute Squad then and there, but not receiving any response, they instead demanded Commissioner Chris Alexander. Not giving Alexander much of a chance to get started, they demanded that something be done about the situation, mainly the interference of Randy Royal, reminding him of the times the FNF had his back in the past. Agreeing whole-heartedly, Alexander then order a rematch for the titles for Tuesday, only with some interesting stipulations. To counter Randy Royal's interference, he will be handcuffed to Alexander for the duration of the match! To further up the stakes for the new champions, if The Fat N The Furious regain the belts, they will get two minutes with Randy Royal all by his lonesome! Who is now more determined for a win this Tuesday, K-Lo and Guido Andretti or Randy Royal, remains to be seen, but any way you slice it, what a way to write the next chapter in this feud!
Kliff Hanger vs. Kris Kanton:
Making his return to competition, CCW prospect Kris Kanton looked like he was ready to make a statement against the perennial CCW fan favorite, Kliff Hanger, who never fails to bring a crowd to its feet as he proved again tonight. Coming into this match, one had to wonder about Kliff Hanger's state of mind as the huge Best of 3 series with The Prophet looms on the horizon.
While Kanton appeared not to being taking Kliff too seriously, soon he was under the rookie's skin by leading a "Fatboy Sucks!" chant that echoed off the walls of the CCW Arena. Showing his edge in the power department, Kanton would plant The Black Redneck with two big body slams to start the match proper. When Kliff Hanger tried to return the slam, all he got for his troubles was a clubbing forearm across the back. Where inexperience meets ego, mistakes often occur. Such was the case as Kanton arrogantly shoved Kliff back into the corner, igniting a furious series of offensive moves, forcing Kanton to the floor!
A test of strength would easily go Kanton's way, given the height and size differential, but Kliff Hanger fought away, and before long, he was back to trying to wear down Kanton with his high-octane pace. Perhaps taking too long to take full control, Kanton still kept himself in a prime position, continuing to rain down shots on Kliff.
Running out of steam a bit following the repeated attempts to put away his opponent, Kanton took just a second too long before attempting a middle-rope knee-drop. Back in business, Kliff Hanger looked for anything he could do to cut the big man down to size, finally coming through with the Coal Miner Kick to take a definitely hard-fought win away with him as he prepares for The Prophet.
Following the match, Kanton then admonished the fans for their lack of support, vowing to never again wrestle in the state of Kentucky! Judging by the response that got from the house, I don't think they were too hurt by that promise, and just a sneaking suspicion here, but something tells me that vow, promise, or even guarantee, we'll be seeing Kris Kanton again sooner than we think.
Winner of the Match: Kliff Hanger, by pinfall
Main Event - J-Mo vs. Elmore Fudd (with Mrs. Elma Fudd):
Elmore Fudd appears to be reaching a crossroads as of late, but he seems to be blazing a more aggressive path as well, and tonight, J-Mo would be playing the part of the roadblock on that path as the bell rang to kick off the evening's main event. While J-Mo may be young and untested, he is also ambitious enough to be sneakier than one could give him credit for. The match provided an interesting parallel between the combatants.
Trying to take his time to feel out the rookie was not as immediately successful as Fudd would have hoped, as he was on the floor thinking up a new angle after a quick start by J-Mo. Taking the low road, Fudd was soon in the driver's seat, using an argument with the referee as to whether or not Fudd had tossed his opponent over the top rope to give Mrs. Fudd ample opportunity to take liberties with the prone J-Mo.
While the action would pick up on the floor, as both men battled briefly, Fudd had kept the upper hand as he brought J-Mo back into the ring. Once back in the ring, the smash-mouth game plan was back in full effect. Only a spear out of nowhere would save J-Mo from certain defeat! Taking the ball and running with it, he would bring the fight straight to Fudd, and this is where the fireworks would start...
Getting involved in the match again, Elma Fudd jumped on the ring apron, cinching J-Mo's arms behind his back. As Elmore raced in for the kill, J-Mo would duck, leaving his opponent a split second to avoid blasting his wife! Using that split second to his advantage, J-Mo would roll up Fudd with a schoolboy and hold on for the upset win! The Fudds were visibly not pleased with each other following the break-down in communication, as Mrs. Fudd left him standing alone in the ring after she was apparently done with her half of the argument for the time being. It'll be interesting to see whether or not things return to normal (as it relates to the Fudds) Tuesday night, when Fudd has to face Jebidiah Blackhawk with one hand tied behind his back! Could be the start of a long week for Elmore Fudd...
Winner of the Match: J-Mo, by pinfall
