2007 Is Beginning To Look Like 1937

Ken Hughes
For those who’re too young to remember the years leading up to the Second World War the similarities between then and now are frightening. We should all look back at history and decide if we wish to repeat it or curb its adverse effects on people by standing up for freedom.

Indifference and appeasement were how the various movements, Nazism, Communism, Imperialism were allowed to advance in those days. It was assumed incorrectly if it didn’t effect America personally it was none of our business, a costly lesson learned.

No European Nation had invaded America since the war of 1812. It had been over a hundred years since America had any serious difficulties with their European cousins. In reality the Spanish American War was as welcomed by the Spanish as by the Americans. Spain’s influence in the Americas and the Pacific was shrinking and Americas was expanding. Spain acquiesced to the stronger power more for conveyance than fear of defeat.

Contrary to the popular myth it isn’t the poor and the oppressed that rise up to conquer other less aggressive people, the poor usually conform to whatever befalls them. Peace and prosperity are an opiate that lures man into a false sense of security. Passive men don’t seem to recognize the Barbarians rushing to tear down the walls protecting them. When the enemy is on top of us these social reformers who’ve assumed authority look for the army they dismantled, the police they disarmed the public they taught to be passive for protection only after the fact, not before when the carnage could have been prevented.

Social equality, passive justice, negations before the fact aren’t the answer to world peace, liberalism isn’t the answer. Diligence, awareness a willingness to die if need be to secure our freedoms is the foundation this country was built on and has kept it free for over 200 years. America’s survived because it’s been wise enough to realize preemptive action keeps the barbarians at bay. Like the rattle snakes of the west Americans rattle to send a message then strike before the intruder steps into the nest and their home is destroyed.

The problem America is facing their fighting an enemy they don’t understand with tactics that aren’t working. If Americas switched and used the ememies tactics then the Americans would be called the barbarians but they would be successful. It’s difficult for civilized people to understand using such tactics as these terrorist groups use due to the inhumanity. It’s even more difficult to understand how some people can justify the terrorist’s actions, especially American citizens who can’t possibly not know of the brutality they inflict on innocent non-combatants.

It’s inconceivable how some Americans can hate the president and their country more than they hate the terrorist murders of children. President Bush not only followed the constitution he followed the traditions of every president since George Washington fighting terrorism and protecting the American public and for this some unpatriotic citizens call for impeachment,

We should be calling for removal of their citizenship.

My friends it’s not the words of the media uses that count it’s the actions they ultimately must describe we should worry about. American soldiers would not be in a combative mode if it were not for the insurgents and the Clerics loyal religious militias killing civilians, what are the soldiers to do stand by and watch?

I have serious doubts this new Democratic Congress has the will to protect this country when the chips are down, there are too many like John Kerry and John Murtha who would throw up their hands in surrender or run in the opposite direction should they be confronted by the enemy.

Let us pray we never allow terrorists to take over because we were to chicken to protect ourselves and those freedoms passed down to us by our brave ancestors.

Let’s not allow 2007 to become 1937 all over again. Every American should stand up and stand tall knowing this country is the best the world has to offer and is damned well worth fighting for.
