All about the AFMC Exam
The Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, is a premier medical institute of the country that admits 130 students (105 boys and 25 girls) each year to train in bachelor's of medicine (MBBS). The students who graduate from this institute are required to work with the Armed Forces Medical Services for at least a period of seven years. In this effect, students have to sign a bond of Rs 15 lacs at the time of joining, and furnish the amount if they desire not to fulfill the conditions aforesaid. The AFMC Exam is held annually for admission to this college.
The Armed Forces have laid down certain medical conditions that all candidates need to fulfill to be eligible for admission. Only unmarried students can apply. Also you need to have attained 17 years (and not more than 22 years) of age as on the 31st of December of the year applying if you are a 12th pass out, or 24 years if applying as a graduate.
You should have passes 10+2, or pre-professional, or pre-medical examination from a recognized University or Board. And have English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects, with minimum 60% in the science subjects, 50% in each science subject, and 50% in English. You should have had Mathematics as a subject in tenth standard. If you are applying as a graduate – B Sc degree, then you should have had at least two of these subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany or Zoology), and a pass in 12th with PCB and English as stated above.

The exam conducted by AFMC is a single paper 2 hour written test, with questions in Biology (Zoology and Botany), Chemistry, Physics, in Intelligence, Logical Reasoning, and English Language and Comprehension. The paper consists of 200 objective type questions, 50 each in the science subjects, and 25 each in Logic and Reasoning, and English Language Comprehension.
Students are strictly prohibited from using calculators, cellular phones, log tables, or PDA during the test.
Each question is equally marked. You will get one mark for every correct answer, and a negative marking of 0.25 for every wrong attempt.
There is no definite syllabus that can be attributed to the test. It typically contains questions of plus two level science stream.
The written test if followed by an Interview Round, only for candidates who qualify in the former.
AFMC Exam and the institute if recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and it is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nasik. It is one of the ways to be a part of the Defence Forces of the country, even if not carrying arms, and also you get an opportunity to get into the prestigious medical profession.
