Christiane Tourtet B.A.
On June 10th 2010, the New Jersey State Senate passed unanimously by 38-0 votes

Resolution SR-20 supporting the establishment of the NeuroEndocrineImmune (NIE) Center, the very first Research Center in the State of New Jersey and in the U.S. devoted to understanding and treating NeuroEndocrineImmune illnesses that are chronic, such as but not limited to , Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) , Gulf War diseases, as well as other viral and bacterial infections illnesses.

Senator Christopher Bateman,( R), Senate Deputy Conference Leader, and Senator

Loretta Weinberg (D), Chair of the Senate Health Committee sponsored Senate Resolution -20, due to the fact that an estimated 20 million Americans including children,

suffer from NEIDs. Of all the health care cost in the U.S. 75% are from chronic illness.

Senator Weinberg, mentioned that it made sense to locate the NEI center in New Jersey, since New Jersey is home to private businesses and to research institutions which can cooperate in order to find a cure for these debilitating diseases.

Furthermore, Senator Bateman, told that he was looking forward the passage of resolution 20, which will solidify the support of the legislature for the research center,

and that he had high hopes , that this will be, in fact, a great step forward, toward

finding answers for the people suffering from these debilitating diseases.

P.A.N.D.O.R.A. (Patient Alliance for Neuroendocrineimmune Disorders Organization for Research & Advocacy, inc) is in partnership with the Lanford Foundation-Lifelyme , Inc,

and will have the NeuroEndocrineImmune (NEI) Center based in Newak, New Jersey, which is set to be open by 2012.

The NEI Center is the very first research center to incorporate clinical and scientific research, social services and quality patient care, at a highest level of development, all in one facility. The mission of the NEI center is that whatever discoveries and advances will have been made in any of the NEIDs will be applicable and quite beneficial to other neuroendocrineimmune disorder (NEIDs), therefore bringing medical researchers closer to a cure. At his beginning, the center will include research of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ( CFS), Fibromyalgia (FM), Gulf War Syndrome or Illness (GWS/I), Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and other associated viral and bacterial illnesses.

Mary Silverman, who founded P.A.N.D.O.R.A. July 1st 2002, and a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia (FM) patient herself, made the following statement " Moral and political victory! On behalf of P.A.N.D.O.R.A. we are mindful of the historical significance of the unanimous vote by the New Jersey Senate as well as by the New Jersey Assembly in 2009. Patients across this country, will be celebrating what is an amazing and pivotal moment in the history of the neuroendocrineimmune disorders community. The New Jersey Legislature, has demonstrated a caring commitment to a community of patients who for the first time in the state of New Jersey can look forward to a brighter and fruitful future."

The Chairman of the NEI Center Project, Veny W. Musun, who was diagnosed along with his wife Patricia, with Chronic Lyme Disease in 2004, stated " The passage of SR 20 is a moral and political victory for millions of individuals stricken with neuroendocrineimmune disorders who have been living far too long without the compassionate support, research and treatment options they deserve. I am proud of my state of New Jersey!"

A member of the NEI Center Project Team, Dr. Lesley Fein, stated " this center will a beacon of hope for patients nationwide, and a place which will bring scientific innovation in New Jersey as well as in the rest of the country."

Veny Musum, Chairman of the NEI Center Project and Debbie Floyd, team member of the NEI Center Project, were both present at the passage of the law.
