How to recover inaccessible files when you uninstall Dell OpenManage in Windows 2000
Consider a scenario wherein you have a Windows 2000 Server system. In this, you remove Dell OpenManage Array Manager and restart the system. However, the system does not start and an error message is displayed, that is:
"Stop 0x0000007B (0xf681f848, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x000000000)
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE"
Cause:
The primary cause of this problematic situation is that after removing the Dell OpenManage Array Manager and the Adatptec FAST utility, the Afamgt.sys filter driver does not get removed. Because of this, you are not able to boot the system.
Resolution:
To resolve this problem, you should perform the following steps:
Load a parallel installation of Windows 2000 on your system.
Open Registry Editor in the parallel version.
Load the SYSTEM hive from the original Windows 2000 installation folder.
Locate and select the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINETEMPControlSet001Services
Click the Perc2 subkey under the Services subkey. Check if its start value is set to 0. If not, then set it. Repeat the process for the Perchib subkey.
Find and select the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINETEMPControlSet001ControlClass{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002 BE10318}
Double-click the UpperFilters entry. Delete the AFAMGT entry in the Multi-String Editor dialog box.
Find and select the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINETEMPControlSet001ServicesAFAMGT
Double-click the Start entry. In the Data box, type 4 and click OK to save and close it.
Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINETEMP. And click Unload Hive on the Registry menu, and click Yes.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the Windows 2000 system from its original installation. And delete the parallel once the system runs fine.
There are instances when the mentioned steps are not able to resolve the issue. Also, there is always a possibility of further damaging the system if you incorrectly modify the registry entries. In such cases, you should use a third-party Windows data recovery software to recover inaccessible files. Such tools are able to undelete files from all possible instances of deletion.
