Celebrating Small Town America In Morgan County and Mooresville, Indiana
There are no theme parks in Mooresville; just a couple of popular local parks where kids play and go swimming in the summer time. Mooresville is also home to the Mooresville Grand Prix, where the racers young and old go faster than I imagined! A short drive away is the Eagle Pines Golf Club, Bradford Woods, the Morgan-Monroe Forestry, the Link Observatory, Mooresville Movies, and there is also one of the few remaining Drive-In theater's left in the state; CenterBrook Drive-In, just outside of town.
Dining In Morgan County
In the morning at Biff's Restaurant in Downtown Mooresville you can expect a warm greeting from the owner, Alice, who has lived in town since my husband was a child. Drop by, say hi to Alice, and enjoy a heaping helping of Biscuits and Gravy, and a cup of coffee.
If you're interesting in a bit of spice from South of the Border try Los Tres Amigos in Martinsville. When looking for great Barbeque our family enjoys the home town BBQ Ribs and pulled pork served at Squealers in Mooresville. Ah, but we cannot forget Zydeco's, where you can enjoy a taste of good ol' New Orleans's style cooking in Downtown Mooresville, plus great music performed by local musicians.
Those who prefer a variety should visit Gray Bros Cafeteria in Mooresville or Poe Bros Cafeteria, located just down highway 67; both are hometown favorites. The Cafeteria's are popular dining spots in the evenings so get there early or expect a bit of a line, but the food is worth it.
Festivals In Morgan County, Indiana
Mooresville is also home to the Indiana State Flag, the annual Old Settler's Festival, and Founder's Day celebration. During the fall there are a few great Festivals to explore in Morgan County, Indiana. About Mid-September you can join the Festivities at the Annual Apple Fest at St. Thomas More Church in Mooresville. Another highlight of the fall season is the fair food and rides at the Fall Foliage Festival in Martinsville, the county seat of Morgan County. The Fall Foliage Festival is the longest parade in the nation, which features local celebrities and hometown heroes.
Our favorite local orchard; Anderson Orchard, is also located in Mooresville, Indiana. Each Fall Anderson Orchard holds an Annual Craft Fair in late September to Early October. While I like browsing through the tent filled with homemade crafts, it is the cheerful folks searching for the perfect pumpkin, picking apples while children play among the hay, and the savory tasty treats like caramel apples which I enjoy most.
A favorite celebration in Mooresville that unites the community is the Victoria Christmas festivities, which take place on the first weekend in December. We've meet old Saint Nick, rode in a carriage, savored the warmth of hot chocolate, and browsed through the unique shops during this festive event. In addition to the annual festivals, dining, and entertainment you might wonder what makes Mooresville, Indiana unique from other towns around the nation. We've found on our journey's that what makes Mooresville and Morgan County unique or any small town for that matter are those who call it home.
It's where you're welcomed by the local residents; enjoy family fun at local festivities, and Celebrate Small Town America.
