Delegation Says Snowmobiling Must be in the Mix for Yellowstone
U.S. Senators Mike Enzi, John Barrasso and Representative Cynthia Lummis, all R-Wyo., said the more restrictive options do more to choke the Wyoming economy than to protect the park.
"If Yellowstone Park is to live up to its mandate and fulfill its mission, then snowmobiling must be a substantial part of the mix. We hope the Park Service remembers that," the delegation said.
The Park Service released six options that outline how Yellowstone National Park could be managed in the winter. The options will be considered as the Park Service works to draft a Winter Use Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to guide management. Public comments will not be taken during this stage, but when the Park Service releases a draft EIS in early 2011, public comment will again be taken.
The delegation encouraged Wyoming residents to remain engaged in the process.
