Reasons to Believe
The humble fly buzzes around our table. It appears to have no benefit to us. It crawls on excrement - then next minute it’s settling on our food. It irritates us at the barbecue. Could it be that someone greater than us has designed it? We can only wonder why. Was it created to make us more conscious of hygiene? Is it simply food for the spider?
The cockroach sports an antenna more finely tuned to the sights and sounds around it than any of those humanly designed TV aerials sitting on our rooftops.
Consider the marvellous way every species of insect, bird, animal is able to reproduce, be it the tiny ant or the enormous elephant.
The surf crashes onto the rocks, booming like mighty thunder. It is incessant and no human can stop it.
The sun rises and it sets, as precise as a $1000 watch. If the heat were excessive we would all die. If the sun had no heat our fruit and vegetables would not grow. There would be no solar heating either.
The rain: it falls, whether we like it or not. Yet without it we could not survive. The darkness falls too – and oh, how it helps us to sleep!
We know if a seed is put into soil, exposed to sunshine, and water added, it becomes a plant or flower, bush, tree. Who supplies the formula to make it happen? Surely someone greater than us.
This is now being read by the human eye. If we lose one, it can only be replaced with a false eye. The reason: the eye is so complex no scientist has succeeded in making one.
In spite of all today’s technology, the human brain is still more complex and intricate than any computer, There it is at the moment of birth, complete and ready to function within a human skull. Every action of ours begins with a thought generated by that brain. Surely it is a creation of God.
Perhaps many would like to be immortal, to live here in this world for ever, but a power greater than us says we must die and face judgment for our time here. We may have money, influence, power, fame, status, but when our time is up we cease to breathe. Again, it is beyond our control.
Can we take all this into account and say there is no God, no Creator?
