How To Clean And Disinfect Your Innerspring Mattress

It is important to clean and disinfect your innerspring mattress regularly. Otherwise, all sorts of micro organisms can live in your bed. The cleaning process of a mattress does not really involve a lot of work. If you are using natural cleaners, the cleaners will do most of the work for you.
Here are some steps you can follow in order to remove dirt, grime, accumulated dust mites and even molds in your innerspring mattress:
Step 1: Carry your mattress to a clean and open area. Place it on top of a clean platform to make things easier for you. Clean preferably during sunny days so you can dry your mattress easily.
Step 2: Get your vacuum cleaner and vacuum all sides of the mattress. Many people also use steam cleaners to clean their mattress. However, if you have a steam cleaner that produces so much watery steam, do not use this. You might have difficulty drying the interior of the innerspring bed. This might lead to the development of molds and mildew. Dry steam cleaners are better because they do not leave too much moisture behind.
Step 3: Inspect the mattress first for signs of stains. For ink stains, soak the area with a bit of milk. For blood stains, treat the area with hydrogen peroxide and cold water. For over-all cleaning and disinfecting solution, use mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Mix one cup of white vinegar with one cup of dissolved baking soda and two cups of water. Place it in a spray bottle and spray it on the area affected. Vinegar has the ability to get rid of stains and to reduce molds in the mattress. It can also help disinfect your bed to get rid of germs and allergens. Baking soda works wonders in removing mattress odor.
Step 4: Allow the cleaning solution to settle in the mattress for at least one hour. After an hour, get a sponge or a small towel and dip it in clean water. Wring out the excess moisture. Wipe the surface of the mattress with the moist towel or sponge.
Step 5: Let the mattress dry completely under the warmth of the sun or place it in a clean area and let the breeze dry it completely.
Step 6: When the mattress is dry again, vacuum all sides of it and then carry it back to your bedroom. Place clean bed sheet and comforter.
