3 Great Museums in Dubai

Jennifer Gregory
The accommodations, food and shopping opportunities in Dubai are remarkable, the beaches are clean and beautiful, and the weather is always warm. If you´d like a bit more stimulation, on the other hand, you´ll find that Dubai has several museums that allow visitors to get a taste of what this marvelous city had to go through in order to become the booming metropolis it is today. Here are a few to check out.

Dubai Museumm

The Dubai Museum is located within a 200 year old fortress, the Al Fahidi fort. The museum houses several ancient artifacts dating back as far as 3,000 BC and takes visitors on a tour through the history of the city. Take a trip through time and see how ancient people here used to live their lives, then work your way up to modern day civilization.

Dubai Heritage Village

At the Dubai Heritage Village you can learn all about the history of the Arabic culture, but that´s where its similarities to the Dubai Museum end. The museum and surrounding village are set up as a re-creation of an old settlement with a mosque, a Majlis, which is a traditional Arabic meeting room, and a coffee shop. Sip on some delicious Arabic coffee while munching on date nuts to help balance out the bitter taste of the coffee. Explore the market area with traditional Dubai arts and crafts and enjoy a special exhibit that explains the complicated process of pearl diving.

Sheikh Saeed al-Matkoum´s House

The house of Sheikh Saeed Al Matkoum, who ruled Dubai from 1912 until 1958, now stands as a museum full of ancient coins, pictures, and documents from throughout Dubai´s history. Learn all about this honored ruler and his life here while taking a tour of the courtyard and wind towers.

If you´re planning a visit to Dubai, you´ll probably want to visit during the months between November and March, as this is when the weather is the coolest and most comfortable. If you´re looking for cheap flights to Dubai, you´ll probably want to avoid the months of January through March because this is when the popular Dubai Shopping Festival, a very popular event, takes places.

No matter when you decide to visit Dubai, you´ll get the shopping, dining and sight seeing experience of a lifetime. Just make sure you don´t skip out on the museums while you´re there!
