Where has Freedom Gone?
Our cell phones can be listened to, home phones can be tapped and our internet experiences can be traced. Where ever we go from the gas station down the street to the grocery store there is a very good chance that there is a tape with you on it. Detroit is now building cars that have what are known as little black boxes that record when and where you have traveled. The most intrusive is that Social Security number that you must have in order to work legally or gain a drivers license, go to school, open a bank account pretty much whatever you need to do. Your whole life history can be traced by this number.
When I read that paragraph it reminds me of some of the things I was taught in school as reasons why communism and totalitarian governments were bad and not free. I will never forget some news reports from the then communist block in the mid 80’s that noted cameras and the comment was “the cameras are to watch the citizenry.” I must laugh now as we experience the same thing today. We were the defenders of freedom and these terrible governments must be brought down. They don’t afford their people freedom and they wish to destroy our way of life. The domino theory of communisms removal of one country at a time on the chess board as if they really could, when you consider that the communist system failed on the financial front. Until the Chinese system adapted to what was needed in order to survive and thrive in today’s world.
I can’t help to think about just where we are headed as a society. This seems to be of little importance to most as they allow the media and politicians to decide the issues of the day. The recent elections were based on Iraq and immigration. I ask why? Are we not failing as our middle class is becoming less and less important as the number becomes smaller? Just as our government thrives on being in debt more and more Americans seem to be falling under the same spell. Success financially is considered when you take what you owe and compare your worth. Living paycheck to paycheck makes this a frightening situation for most.
Why is health care not the main topic? Is this not sad as many who worked all of their lives and now expect what was promised or should have been? Deciding whether to eat or pay for medical bills and prescriptions. I am sorry to inform you that we do not have the longest life expectancy and our ratio of deaths at birth is not the best. Maybe we should learn from other nations as despite the fact that you were told that socialized medicine is a bad thing in reality it is better than what we have. It might be as simple as not trying to change the world to what we think it should be to learning what we can from others.
Terrorism seems to be the topic of the day as there seems to be many that try to destroy our way of life. If you take a good look and listen it is not that they want to destroy us. They want us not to influence or destroy their way of live. They do not want our so called freedom. You can’t change things overnight. We must learn to accept others and allow them to accept us. This One World Order thing has lost control and will destroy itself. To judge a society you must look at the way it treated its most vulnerable. You are only as strong as your weakest link and in America today that link is giving way. Hang on for the ride as by the time of our grandchildren the balance will shift to a small bit of socialism as this is the only way.
You are not really free anyway. Unless you have money your freedom is limited. And I am sorry but not everyone can have this said gain as this requires that you neglect something in your life. Excuse me as I read the book 1984 again. Okay H.G. Wells was off by a few years.
