Human Survival is Now Dependent on Computer Code: Twenty years that changed our security

Language is what sets humans apart from the rest of Creation. Our sophistication has enabled us to transform our lives and the world into any artificial form that we like. Modern life is so artificial now, that we have little real contact with nature for our daily survival.
The computer revolution has taken civilization to the next level, to create an artificial consciousness from two things that are invisible, math and electromagnetics. Of course there is the physical conduit of the microprocessor, but even with that, just three small, almost invisible things comes the creation of a rudimentary consciousness through which we base our lives on. At least a form of intelligence, a tool of intelligence that we can use and direct. Science fiction writers worry when this will evolve into artificial intelligence, with a will of its own.
Consciousness is the bugaboo of science. It exists in opposition to religion, which is all about extra-human consciousness and control. Science is all about human control, with humanity being the only consciousness in existence at our level or above. Reality is just inert matter, which we can control. Any talk about God in the exploration of science is a no-no, because science relies on stable, neutral natural laws that do not pose an issue that consciousness entails. Science does not want to deal with the essence of being human. It only wants to deal with inert matter that does not consider bigger issues of how that inert matter relates to human consciousness. Consciousness is the dark shadow of science. Humans are the only ones allowed to have it on this scale. It is a veiled domination issue.
Science reduces ‘reality’ into a mathematical equation. It describes matter and phenomena using numbers and observations that add up to the outcome, the thing being described. Then it is ready to be controlled and altered by tinkering with the variables in the equation to transform reality into what humans wish.
Computers take this old method of relating to reality through logic and almost reverses it. The effect of computers is merely a representation on a monitor of a process of logic, of math, that has been created ‘out of thin air.’ Computer code is pure mathematics, algorithms, zeroes-and-ones, arcane languages that have been invented like HTML, Visual Basic, etc. By opening and closing millions of different transistors using electricity in a microchip, the higher math is possible and expresses both the mathematical logic and the will of the creators to create virtual form, information, and meaning.
This is a leap for scientific civilization. It is an introverted exercise, using threadbare mediums to alter, control and expand the artificial environment that modern civilization has created. It is the expression of reality as mathematics, numbers, variables and equations being the root of the unconscious, neutral natural laws of reality. Humans perceive the math and can control from it. It is using the purity of our thought that translates onto exterior reality, as much as an expression of the reality outside that affects us. We have figured out reality’s game, and now our minds can harness mathematics to affect not hard matter, but our interior life without regard for physical manipulations beyond a keyboard. The interiors of the human being without reference to the natural world. It is meaning that is not poetic, but highly defined that we can use to control the meaning within ourselves. We control our consciousness differently, with more precision because we now think in equation-like terms both through numbers and the use of concepts like variables. Computers are the expression of this.
It is the purest expression of creation and consciousness divorced from the need to reference what is outside of the invisible mind. It is imagination, pure and simple. We have, in effect, created a scientific spirit, a conduit of consciousness that is self-contained in logic, electricity and silicone. And these three simple things translate into our artificial modern reality to create a virtual economy of computer workers who do not manipulate reality, only equations that have a ripple effect through money and planning to affect the now-tamed environment from which we get our basic needs of life.

Microsoft tried to be the Catholic Church of this new consciousness, but ‘Protestants’ came up with open-source code and the environment changed so quickly from operating systems and simple computer programs reliant on the singular box, to the world of the Internet where Google now challenges the antique Microsoft model. Google creates its own language and structure from Linux to dominate the ether of the World Wide Web of communications. Old institutions don’t work, aren’t flexible enough, don’t move fast enough and cannot clamp down on the freedom that the post-modern mind is used to. The sands shifted too quickly. Programmers take basic code and custom design purposes with little reference to a monopolist owner.
Who would have thought that the Firefox browser could challenge Internet Explorer so rapidly after Microsoft swallowed its former competitors like WordPerfect, Netscape, Mac and Visicalc so easily? Web 2.0 is just beginning, taking commerce, communication and the Internet into a whole new level of what we can imagine using our minds and a computer screen to express our consciousness. An intelligent medium to relate to. The only other non-human life form we relate to are our dogs. The computer is creating something intelligent in our lonely human-centered existence.
In effect, we are creating from the ground up. And we are creating ‘nothing.’ Just information communicated through three small principles: mathematics, electricity and silicone. And computer code is a foreign language less than fifty years old that is the actual lingua franca of the global village. It is what modern society is built on, not the natural world. And electricity doesn’t just make the science in the stove work; it is the basis of communication for the distribution network that we rely upon, business, to keep us alive.

Now we are creating the next linguistic foundation from which to construct our lives, and programmers are the theologians. Its mathematical code, what our entire modern survival system is based upon. How resilient is this? Where is this human creation going? Do we realize how we have replaced an invisible God with invisible numbers to base our lives on? It sounds extreme. But we are like aristocrats who don’t really appreciate how the food got on our tables. Killing the cow is only a small fraction of what went into getting the steak to our mouths. The cow’s life was managed on the farm through drugs and nutrition. The transportation, refrigeration, processing, packaging, retail and financial support to make it all happen are massive. Our survival system is not simple anymore. The economy is based on mathematics, electricity and silicone to make this production and distribution happen now. There are now automatic paper towel dispensers in public restrooms. A microchip delivering what our hands’ grip used to accomplish. It is bizarre the lengths that technology is going just to dry our hands!

It sounds like an addiction, and the drug is changing our lives. Created from nothing but the mind sitting in front of a computer monitor writing code.
Perhaps our worries about climate change are a little misplaced. While we are trying to fix the weather like a car engine, the unseen world of mathematics is surreptitiously uprooting the last vestiges of our connection with the earth. Not exactly the artificial intelligence of ‘The Matrix.’ But perhaps just as sinister because our reliance on it so benignly stays under our radar screen of what keeps us alive. The Bible used to be the code that structured our subconscious existence. We are redesigning that now, giving dominance to the equation. We created this. We can’t blame it on God. He doesn’t exist in any practical measure. Our imagination has shifted to the pliable variables of an equation to control our lives.
