A View From The Couch: WWE Champion Sheamus Gives Big Boot To Irish Stereotype.

Jonathan Ragus
NEW YORK, NY Welcome to the first installment of A View From The Couch! This is a weekly column that will usually get posted during or following RAW, basically about my take on recent action in WWE storylines. If the product is bland, I´ll take a stroll down memory lane, because seriously, I can´t write a thousand articles on how

John Cena is only loved by five-year olds. I don´t think that topic generates much traffic!

New champions were crowned at this past Sunday´s PPV Fatal 4-Way (I rented an adult video one time with the same name, how peculiar A new woman´s champ, or Diva´s, I really don´t care what its called, but Alicia Fox is the champ now for anyone curious. Rey Mysterio wins the Heavyweight Title for the first time that no one felt bad for him because of someone´s death. And then, we have the WWE Title back in the hands of the Celtic Warrior Sheamus, a move the smark fan is thanking the wrestling god´s for.

Sheamus has quickly climbed the ladder to superstardom in the WWE. Yes, it´s good to have friends in high places, but Sheamus has done a great job building his character into a main event heel in such short time. It´s hard to get the crowd to hate you. You can be a heel, but if you can´t get over with the crowd, then the character is in need of a serious overhaul. Along with Edge and The Miz, Sheamus is one of the most hated superstars amongst the WWE Universe.

The thing you have to admire about Sheamus is that he could easily just be another stereotype of a foreign character, but he´s not. Being from Ireland, they could have easily made him one of many stereotypes. The most obvious? A heavy drinker. Although the PG rating most likely does not condone drinking of any kind. Also as an Irishmen, he could have just been some guy with a plaid taxi driver hat spouting silly quotes like ´Top O´ The Mornin´ To Ya For once, the WWE has decided not to give a wrestler of foreign decent a gimmicky character, and it´s working. Sheamus is just a big power heel that wants nothing more then to crush his opponent and be the best in the ring. So simple, and it puts those asses in the seats.
