Americans Do Have A Voice
How many polls found Americans were dissatisfied with the way their country was being ran? They are tired of the war in Iraq, the high cost of prescription drugs and medical care, and they want something done to help the poor reach beyond the barbed wire fence of poverty. Did politicians listen? No. What happened? They were voted out of office. Good for America, that's a big thumbs up.
Over the past three or four years I have written my representatives about my feelings on certain issues. I received sterile, generalized letters in return. My representative was a nonexistent constituent. He represented big business, lobbyists, and whatever his party commanded. I place him in the same job category as used car salesmen and Evangelical millionaire leaders.
Will we ever have change in this country? Perhaps. I think our senators and congressmen/women have gotten the picture. No more status quo. Get a national health care plan in place, end the freaking war, develop environmentally friendly transportation, and get our country off the breast milk of the Middle East. If these things aren't accomplished over the next four years, our beloved congress will once again be subject to change. Soon, the turnover in both houses will be comparable to the turnover rate at fast food joints. My advice to our leaders, don't buy a house until you decide to follow the American mood. Remember, Americans are paying for your benefits and salary. You can be fired almost as fast as you were hired.
Personally, I'm from the great state of Indiana and was so happy to see the change in our conservative "heart of America." Our beloved governor, Mitch Daniels (R), was too good to live in our beautiful old governor's mansion so he built his own diggings not far from the old mansion at the tune of a mere two million bucks. Mitch has about every public employee enraged because of his negative stance on their unions and their paychecks; he may be the next Republican to leave office in 2008. My advice Mitch is to put your governor's shanty up for sale now. It will save you the trouble of trying to ditch the place in a couple of years. Don't try to sell it to the your replacement. He or she may want to live in the mansion meant for the governor and they may actually have a positive relationship with their employers.
