JAMBANGAN JCI JAYCEES CLUB: The Terrorists of Poster Art

I'M NOT IMPRESSED with the Jambangan Junior Chamber International Jaycees Club in terms of public performance. But I'm neither discontented with their works either. I simply feel indifferent wherever they're concerned, until recently.

You see, I have this group of artist-friends who were invited by the club to be the judges in the Inter-collegiate Poster Art Competition at the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Officers' Clubhouse, Calarian, Zamboanga City.

These artists are Lorna Fernandez, Claudina Mendoza, and Balikatan Seviceman Major Troy Ellis. Their artistic performances are outstanding, and they all take art as an exact walk of life. Also, they treat art with the best of judgements. Wholesome living heroes, indeed.

And, of course, like any other artists par excellance, they see to it that art is treated with utmost importance, appreciation, seriousness, fairness, sincerity, integrity, honesty---and everything that is devoid of all forms of corruption!

So, everytime social institutions (meaning the civic clubs such as Rotary, Lions, etc.) invite them to be the judges in various art contests, the hosting club officers and members were proud and impressed.

The clubs were even tell-taley to the point of unconsciously making known to corrupt, non-respectable civic institutions.

The Jambangan JCI Jaycees (they're really CRAFTY, by the way), who sponsored the poster painting contest, in consortium with the Region 9 Military Intelligence Group (MIG) and the Western Mindanao Naval Intelligence Security Agency (NISA), arranged for the three well-reputed artists to be the "ONLY THREE" judges to the contest. Needless to say, this young people group, along with the two Intel institutions, overestimated themselves.

So, on the judging day of the inter-school poster art contest, the three eager and willing artists went to the SouthCom Officers' Club Hall to judge the contest.

Case in point, the theme of this art contest was "OUR COMMUNITY IS A MAJOR STAKEHOLDER IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM".

Anyway, it was indeed a joy to see the judges and the students; especially since the deserving youngsters painstakingly burned the midnight candle to emerge with the much-needed message in art---plus the fact that they are rarely exposed in socio-academic circles since they are not children of rich and influential leaders in the city.

They were chatting away endlessly in the passenger jeepney on the way to the WESTMINCOM Headquarters at Calarian about how they're going to please their parents and families with the cash if any of them emerge as winners; that they're sure their families and friends will be happier and prouder for them.

They toyed with the idea that JCI Jaycees Project Leader FRANCIS NORMAN WEST is one bonafide Filipino Citizen who possesses an edge over the other Filipinos---THAT AMERICAN SENSE OF INTEGRITY AND PATRIOTISM.

They also discussed with the impression that it was easier for the MIG and the NISA to bring to public eye the RIGHTFUL result of the art contest, than it is with toppling down the evil works of terrorist groups in the region; and so on.

Like the three doting judges, these students looked really neat and modest in their respective attires---a fresh mind and spirit, and with their respective art works at hand.

They didn't want the coordinators, sponsors and judges to think their personalities are in contrast with their well-done works of art. They wanted to impress everyone surrounding their artistry.

IRONICALLY TERRORISTIC

Everyone involved were at the WESMINCOM Officers' Club Hall by 3PM, and the three judges did their works right away.

Unfortunately, it is a "rule" for the judges NOT to be presented with the art contestants and even their names.

Worstly, the judges were not allowed to make the final tally of result, as the JCI Jaycees officers and members persistently "volunteered" to do it themselves---a situation that could be analyzed on both extremes of hidden manipulation.

Two days later, I was then called by Ms. Mendoza and Ms. Fernandez, and they related to me all that had occured. Major Ellis wasn't able to meet me that day as he was with his American co-Servicemen fighting the Abu Sayyaf in the heathens of Mindanao.

With frustration in the face of Claudina, she told me of the total diversion of result of the contest that the organizers had done, so as TO FIELD IN THEIR CHOICES IN THE WINNERS' LIST. Claudina was really debastated and was almost at the verge of losing her temper.

"They corrupted the true winners. They diverted our results!" she cried out.

I could see that the Jambangan JCI Jaycees Club, for one specific hidden agenda, was not ammenable at all with the judges' decision. I was hoping though that they would pretend it to be an "honest mistake" with matching public apology via the tri-media. After all, these specific jaycee kids are still "half-baked cheese cakes" and half-way to professional maturity, aren't they?

Out of their lack of wisdom, they texted back and admitted it to be "an honest mistake", but categorically refused to make a public apology.

As the judges' Letter of Request for Public Apology came to the fore, Francis Norman West's texted reply stated: "OK MAAM, I RESPECT WHATEVER YOUR DECISION IS. WE WILL JUST WAIT FOR WHATEVER ACTION YOU'LL MAKE, AND WE WILL COUNTER IT. DECISION HAS BEEN MADE BY OUR ORGANIZATION. THE RESULT IS FINAL AND WON'T BE CHANGED."

"So, what's the use was it for them to invite us to judge the artworks, if the organizers were the ones who determined the line of winners?" asked Ms. Mendoza. "They just insulted us with their utter act of dishonesty."

What Ms. Mendoza and the other invited artists didn't realize is that this bunch of 'fresh' young professionals just used them to create a formal front image of the pre-manipulated contest.

What the "only three judges" didn't know is that the line of winners was already preorchestrated. And, sad to say, the chosen 'victors' are CHILDREN OF THE LITERATI AND GLITTERATI in the city.

As a mediaman, I wanted to be impartial, but I realized the junior jaycees and co-organizers were standing outside the circle of logic, hence, this article.

"GOOD ENOUGH" FOR STARTERS

"Why do they refuse to make a public apology and announce the real winners? What are they hiding from the public? What they did was totally immoral!" said Ms. Mendoza.

What they did was immoral, indeed. But as novatos in the practice of hidden agenda, THAT WAS "GOOD ENOUGH FOR A START".

The nerve of the Jambangan Jaycees to treat Zamboanga City's artistry like that! The nerve for them to betray the deserving students who joined the contest. And, the nerve for them to serve as hideous models to all the young people.

If the three invited judges were practitioners of Chaos Magic, these corrupt young Jaycees novatos would be 'frogs in the grass' by this presstime.

REGIONAL CLUTCH

"We'll soon push through with the Regional Poster Art Competition," enthussed Francis Norman West.

Personally, I want to slap his pudgy half-breed face and say: WHAT FOR? SO YOU CAN CONTINUE TO PRACTICE YOUR RIDICULOUS PENCHANT FOR FAVORITISM?

But Instead, I say this once and for all: Francis and the entire Jambangan Junior Jaycees---you're against the light of logic and wisdom. Justice can't favor you that way.

Francis and the entire Jambangan Junior Jaycees---do you know what's the worst thing about this whole scene? It's the fact that you just left an inevitable stain on the faces of all the Jaycee members in the local, national and international scenes.

Francis and the entire Jambangan Junior Jaycees---it will be too inexplicable how you will be able to GET AWAY with your unacceptable act of lawlessness in the eyes of God and mankind. YOU'RE WORST THAN ALL THE INCURABLE ILLNESSES IN SOCIETY! SHAME ON YOU!

Clearly, this proves the journals partially wrong. TERRORISTS don't only exist in the heathen areas of the countries, but also in sophisticated civic clubs like the JAMBANGAN JCI JAYCEES CLUB. Caveat emptor! (JV)
