"Disney Hall is not only one of the most beautiful and acoustically superior venues in the world but is easily accessible to major freeways, has convenient built-in parking and is close to major museums, great restaurants and other destinations," says Mindy Kernc, Box Office Director. "We always suggest that patrons make the concert the centerpiece of an enriching and rewarding day trip."
Kernc is not exaggerating when she describes an afternoon with Cal Phil as enriching. A highlight for longtime devotees of Cal Phil is the opportunity to attend the orchestra´s "Talks with the Maestro" sessions in BP Hall at 1 p.m. prior to the concert.
"I look forward to every talk because that´s just what it is a talk," says Cal Phil´s founder and music director Victor Vener. "It´s not a lecture. I can´t stress that enough! The audience and I have a conversation. Ask any question about the music you wish, and I´ll do my best to answer it and help make your musical experience even more vibrant."
Yet those who attend "Talks with the Maestro" will learn far more than mere facts or figures about a particular work. Long before he lifts his baton at rehearsal, Vener studies scores and historical accounts of the music he has programmed. He then makes a point of sharing his own personal reaction to what he has learned with the audience.
"Victor has a passion for presenting what he calls ´great music´ of every genre. But he is equally passionate about presenting authentically historical performances," adds longtime Cal Phil patron and former Board member Grace Thompson. "And, because of that, we´ll often hear interpretations that differ from how the work is commonly performed. Victor keeps those of us who might think we ´know´ a particular work on our toes."
The maestro also keeps audiences laughing. "Victor earned a doctorate in music performance from USC, so he knows music," Thompson continues. "But he also knows how to make music magical and fun whether he´s giving a ´Talk with the Maestro´ or is onstage. I sometimes wonder which is louder, the applause or the laughter. There´s truly no experience like Cal Phil as our packed halls attest."
Subscriptions are available for purchase at the Walt Disney Concert Hall box office. Tickets for individual events can be purchases through Ticketmaster online or by calling 800-745-3000. For downloadable order forms, seating and pricing, visit Cal Phil´s website: www.calphil.org.

ABOUT CAL PHIL
The CalPhil Foundation was founded by Music Director and Conductor Victor Vener and a small group of enthusiastic, dedicated music lovers based in Southern California. The Foundation, a nonprofit community benefit organization, supports the California Philharmonic in a quest to expand awareness of classical music, thus increasing the interest and support for great timeless music with wide audience appeal. Along the way, Maestro Vener and the California Philharmonic have garnered many awards, including resolutions passed by the California Legislature State Assembly, recognition from the U.S. Congress and a commendation from the County of Los Angeles.
Dr. Vener has electrified audiences in the United States, Europe and Asia, conducting exciting performances of a wide range of repertoire with his unique blend of outstanding musicianship and personalized audience engagement. The California Philharmonic is recognized for its high-quality professional performances of music by notable composers from the diverse genres of jazz, pops, Broadway and opera. Also, with a strong commitment to new music and to expanding the symphonic repertoire, the Orchestra has presented nine world premieres and four Southern California premieres of orchestral works and three world premieres of chamber works.
The California Philharmonic began with a five-concert inaugural season of Cal Phil Festival on the Green on the beautiful grounds of the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden in Arcadia. Now, the Orchestra presents fourteen concerts per year in three different, but equally impressive, venues in Los Angeles County, California. The other concert series are: Cal Phil at Walt Disney Concert Hall (downtown Los Angeles) and Cal Phil at The Mill (The Old Mill in San Marino).
Through free community outreach events, such as Cal Phil Family Night (a concert and interactive activities for children) and Talks with the Maestro, people of all ages and from all walks of life have the opportunity to experience the wonder of live classical music performed by world-renowned musicians.
Geographically, the California Philharmonic serves and entertains a diverse population from the Los Angeles metro area including, but not limited to, Brentwood, Rancho Palos Verdes, Beverly Hills, Marina del Rey, Sherman Oaks, Pasadena, Altadena, La Canada, Calabasas, Manhattan Beach, Encino, Tarzana, Westwood, Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica.
