Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse Act of 2010 Introduced in the House
Washington, DC – Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) joined members of the Blue Dog Coalition in introducing the Preventing Waste, Fraud and Abuse Act of 2010. This legislation, co-sponsored by Rep. Schiff, will make strategic investments in federal programs, aimed at preventing wasteful government spending.
"The federal government too often focuses on imposing new taxes or cutting needed government programs, when vital services can be provided by implementing existing laws more effectively," Rep. Schiff said. "This legislation will help us to identify and root out the waste, fraud and abuse in federal programs that will allow us to improve program efficiency, and ensure the long-term economic and national security of our country."
Specifically, the Preventing Waste, Fraud and Abuse Act of 2010 will:
Provide Executive Agencies with the financial resources they need to enforce U.S. laws and prevent waste, fraud and abuse in the Children´s Health Insurance Program, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security Disability Insurance, and Unemployment Insurance;
Make additional investments in IRS tax enforcement efforts to ensure individuals do not pay more than their fair share;
Save more than $35 billion over the next five fiscal years and more than $132 billion over the next 10 fiscal years; and,
Put the necessary tools in place to effectively track the progress, and evaluate and reengineer programs to produce better government.
Rep. Schiff has been a member of the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition since he arrived in Congress. The Blue Dog Coalition formed in 1995 with a core set of beliefs that transcend partisan politics, including a deep commitment to the balancing the budget, paying down our debt, and improving the financial stability and national security of the United States. Currently there are 54 members of the Blue Dog Coalition.
