OBAMA STOP WAR FUNDING
America needs to lead the way with PEACEFUL negotiations and stop funding war. John Conyers. Representative for Michigan posted on Huffington 5-29-10 that America spent $1 TRILLON on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and asks, "What could we have purchased with $1 TRILLION? Today, we might be enjoying the fruits of a green economy, spurred by New Deal-like investments in wind and solar. Or, we might have made the smart investments in our domestic law enforcement capabilities and homeland security apparatus to provide true protection from Al Qaeda and others who wish us harm. Sadly, we'll never know because our political leadership never explored alternative means of achieving peace, such as emphasizing rigorous regional diplomacy and instead over extended our military forces abroad."
Rep. Jan Schakowsky from Illinois commented in her post that, "This includes the over 5,000 men and women who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001. Even in difficult economic times, this is by far the most devastating cost of all, the lives we have lost in these two conflicts."
1 TRILLION DOLLARS spent on war in Iraq and Afghanistan and how much was spent on education and preventive heath care combined during these years? Less than 10%. Our test scores rank so low in math and science because education isnīt our priority. Where our country is investing, is our future. Violence and the barbaric ways of war are dominating instead of common sense and ingenuity. This is insanity.
The biggest mistake we Americans continue to make is letting our govīt finance war, itīs destructive to our health and our childrenīs future. War is not the answer.
Violence of any type is wrong in our country or directed by our government at other countries. Itīs time to get real with decisions that are affecting all of us. Do you want your child to have a great education and grow up in a country that still has compassion for each other or would you prefer that we bomb another city and destroy their families? My vote is for Education and Peace. Through education we understand more and learn to communicate better. We all need to decide how weīre going to achieve PEACE.
