Have YOU Had Enough?

What amazes me, as election day approaches, is how many people still believe in the Bush Administration in particular and the Republican party in general. Let us pause for a moment to consider the following reasons why incredulity ought to be operant when listening to the President or the Republicans now holding power over Congress, the Senate and the White House:

1. The Iraqi "Weapons of Mass Destruction", used as pretext for an unnecessary war that has now cost the lives of 2,826 American kids since the thing started. To this date, no massive caches, as described by Colin Powell before the United Nations, has ever been found. This despite the Bush hand-picked Iraq Survey Group of 1,200 searchers doing their absolute best to locate such stockpiles.

2. The Downing Street Memo that illustrated clearly how this administration wanted war with Iraq, and fixed policy around that intended goal.

3. Elimination of Constitutional rights and protections, exposed as government spying programs on American citizens. Today, our telephone, internet and even written communication can be viewed by government operatives without warrant as required by the Constitution and FISA court legislation passed by Congress.

4. Elimination of Due Process of Law, guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America. Under outrageous powers claimed by government, American citizens may now be held in detention without access to legal representation or the courts indefinitely.

5. This President, G. W. Bush, referred to the Constitution of the United States of America saying: "it's just a goddamned piece of paper". This from someone who took an oath of office proclaiming he would "preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States of America from all enemies, foreign and domestic." Bear in mind that this document, created by our founding fathers, establishes the very system of democracy under which we live as Americans. It establishes our basic rights and liberties as Americans. These same rights and liberties have been under massive assault by the Bush Administration.

6. Failure of this administration to mitigate the catastrophe of hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans. Despite pledges that the federal government would help that city recover, it today remains the site of devastation and precious little has been accomplished to restore New Orleans.

7. The war in Iraq turned attention away from the 'war on terror', the Taliban and Al Qaeda to embark on the current misadventure in Iraq! The upshot is that the Taliban and Al Qaeda have returned with a vengeance in Afghanistan. There is the powerful possibility that we may yet lose that country. American troops have been shifted from Iraq to Afghanistan as a result.

8. Opium production in Afghanistan this year is at an all-time high (no pun intended) and much of the money generated by flooding the world with this dangerous drug will end up providing support to Al Qaeda and the Taliban as they stream across the border with Pakistan.

9. World opinion of America has been destroyed by Bush Administration policies.

10. This administration has consistently denied torture of detainees held in American custody, despite overwhelming evidence that such tactics are routinely used. More recently, with the introduction of the "McCain Provision", the Bush administration has been forced to admit what they've been doing. Still more damningly, Vice President Dick Cheney referred to the use of such barbaric tactics as a “no brainer!”

11. Not only does the Bush Administration endorse torture, using semantics to sugarcoat what the facts actually are, they also operate covert CIA prisons around the globe. Unfortunate victims of these secret prisons can be tortured without mercy and killed, with no guilt having been determined by any court of law whatsoever. One example involves a Canadian who has become vocal in his denunciation of what was done to him. http://www.freewilliamsburg.com/archives/2006/09/canadian_falsel.html

12. The Bush Administration, in their lust for war, contemplated flying a U2 aircraft over Iraq, painted with UN colors, in hopes that the Iraqis would shoot the plane down to provide justification for a war that simply had no justification. The US "was thinking of flying U2 reconnaissance aircraft with fighter cover over Iraq, painted in UN colours", Mr Bush said. If Saddam fired on them, the Iraqis would be in breach of UN resolutions, he suggested. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4849744.stm

13. Despite misleading comments by this administration, suggesting that Iraq had or was developing nuclear weapons, nothing of the sort proved true.

14. The Bush Administration also suggested strongly that Iraq had something to do with 911. To this date, no evidence of any sort has been produced.

15. George W. Bush has consistently maintained that we were attacked on 911 because "They hate our freedom". Yet, nothing in the events of 911, nor subsequent, by anyone involved with Al Qaeda or Osama bin Laden has affected our rights and liberties. The only infringement on our freedoms has been the result of Bush Administration emasculation of the Constitution of the United States of America.

16. In reference to number 15 above, note that our freedoms and liberties have been eroded by the Patriot Acts 1 and 2, by the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security, and most damningly, by the recent passage of the Military Commissions Act of 2006. Denounced by Constitutional scholars as dictatorial in nature, this hellish piece of work gives the President sole authority to label any American as an enemy combatant. As such, the individual may be stripped of all Constitutional liberties, held without due process, tortured, and held indefinitely without access to the courts. Rights of habeas corpus, a human right held in high regard since 1679, are undermined or eliminated entirely, at the sole discretion of the President and his designated representatives. Their sole discretion, under this act, is all that is required to transform an American citizen into a gulag prisoner. This violates a fundamental concept found in common law as a fundamental human right.

17. A complicit Congress and Senate, both under control of Republicans, have rubber-stamped presidential abuses of power that make anything seen in the Nixon era appear tame by contrast. There has been no accountability for any behavior by this administration, regardless how egregious it may have been!

18. Congress and the Senate have conspired with this President to eradicate the rights and liberties of all Americans, and have not undertaken their Constitutional responsibility, indeed their oathbound duty, to exercise oversight on the Administration.

19. This Administration, while claiming others are soft on national security, accomplished nothing to secure our borders. The invasion of this nation continues with an alarming number of unknown individuals entering this nation every day. Many of them are from nations hostile to the United States. Others have well documented criminal records in their native lands. Shipping containers enter American ports with few, if any, being checked to ensure nothing harmful is coming into the country. Worse, this administration nearly gave control over American ports to a nation with known connections to terrorist groups, such as Al Qaeda.

20. This Administration, friendly to corporate interests, has presided over legislation that is beneficial to corporations while being terribly damaging to average Americans. Whether it was the legislation making it cumbersome and difficult for a citizen to declare bankruptcy, crafted by the credit card companies, or the prescription drug bill that was the dream of pharmaceutical companies, the administration has shown a remarkable disregard of the American people.

21. Lobbyists exercised excessive control over legislation passed by Congress leading to corruption on a massive scale. The Abramoff scandal has been quietly shuffled off the public stage despite several congressional members already convicted or under indictment for criminal corruption. Tom Delay, Bob Ney and others caught up in the scandal represent only the most visible players in this nefarious behavior, with many more being shielded from prosecution by a complicit Republican party.

22. The current sex scandal involving Representative Mark Foley is only the smallest imaginable sliver of a massive iceberg that will likely never come to light. This behavior involving minor children is massive and widespread, with tendrils reaching into many American cities and to safe havens for deviant behavior overseas.

23. President Bush, acting without the consent of the American people, is engaged in creation of the North American Union, the result of which is to negate our sovereignty as a nation. Together with Vincente Fox, President of Mexico and Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, the North American Union would eliminate borders between the three nations and establish a massive mega-nation in the style of the European Community (EU). This is being done without knowledge by the majority of citizens in Mexico, Canada or the United States! See: Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America and Eagle Forum for additional information.

Yet, most Americans who voted Republican in the past will do so again. Despite all the evidence why this Congress and President are the most heinous band of brigands in American history, Republicans will rally around their party and continue seeking power in America.

As for me, a one time Republican myself, I've had enough.

How about you? Has the light of reason settled upon you, or do you still wallow in the mire of deception and corruption that now floods across this nation? Have you come to realize that those now in power are undeserving of your vote, or will you choose to keep this lot in power in 2006? Will you rise up to throw them out on their collective ear, or maintain the status quo? Will you choose liberty, or tyranny? Will you cast your vote wisely, or retain the court jesters who entertain the newest King George?

How many more of our children must die in sacrifice upon the altars of Halliburton or Exxon for an outright lie?

Haven't we had enough?
