The mountains of Appalachia are literally under attack! Help Keep The EPA STRONG!
Dear Joseph,
Don't let this dirty coal mine move forward in Appalachia!
Contact the EPA today--the
comment deadline is June 1st.
Tragically, coal mining companies have buried close to 2,000 miles of Appalachian streams beneath piles of toxic waste and debris caused by mountaintop removal coal mining.
The mountains of Appalachia are literally under attack from this devastating process.
Now we need to support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in their efforts to veto one of the largest proposed mountaintop removal mines ever authorized in Appalachia, the Spruce No. 1 mine.
Scientific consensus has proven that mountaintop removal mining harms streams, rivers and drinking water supplies. It is ravaging ecosystems, wreaking havoc on wildlife, sickening people, and devastating Appalachian communities.
The proposed expansion of the Spruce No. 1 mine in West Virginia would bury more than seven miles of headwater streams, directly impact 2,278 acres of forestland, and degrade water quality in nearby streams.
The EPA is taking a critical step in protecting Appalachian communities that have long suffered from the effects of mountaintop removal by invoking its rarely-used Clean Water Act authority to close down the Spruce mine.
We must not let this dirty coal mine move forward in Appalachia. Can you contact the EPA today?
Sincerely,
Ashley Judd
