Bridal Makeup and Hair Do Styling Prepping Tips from Phoenix and San Diego Wedding Beauty Experts

We asked our clients what they want to know most about preparing for bridal beauty. We have gathered advice from amazing professionals in the bridal beauty business to share with our brides-to-be!
What facial treatments should I get before my wedding?
While a great makeup artist can cover blemishes, it really is best reduce the chances of them occurring. Esthetician Koltton Fox from Steve and Paul Salon (Phoenix, AZ), suggests a good deep cleansing so pores are clean and the skin is glowing as well as a back facial. "It is great because the bride's back/shoulders will most likely be seen so it is nice to have that silky smooth, soft and radiant."
What skin treatments should I stay away from?
"Stay away from harsh treatments, peels or acne treatments (lots of extractions) right before the wedding. It is ok to do these weeks before just in case you have a reaction, but if you try experimenting the week of your wedding, you may not get the results desired and it will be too late to let your skin recover before those wonderful wedding pictures," Fox says.
Are there any diet tips the bride should know leading up to the wedding day?
Dietician, Andrea Ogden (San Diego, CA), suggests at least one to two weeks before the wedding, "make half your diet vegetables (starchy veggies like potatoes, corn, and peas need not apply). This will boost the immune system to fight off any viruses or bacterial infections that a fatigued bride can often get during the honeymoon. A plant based diet will also give the bride energy, detoxify the digestive track, contribute to glowing skin, and the best part, lead to an upwards of five pounds of water loss. Focus on veggies that are rich in color."
What can a bride eat and drink on her wedding day to achieve the perfect wedding glow?
"Stay hydrated on your wedding day, but start prepping a couple days before. With the rehearsal dinner and last minute details to align, water is often the last thing on the bride´s mind. Keep water with you at all times. Add sliced cucumbers, berries, and lemon for an antioxidant punch that can also be soothing to a sensitive digestion system. The natural flavoring of the fruit and sweet vegetable will also make it easier to drink," suggests Ogden.
How long before the wedding should I color and cut my hair?
If the bride-to-be colors her hair, it is important to schedule coloring in accordance with the wedding day, so your beautiful hair color shines through and looks fresh. Phoenix Kensington hairstylist Jamie Stevens, recommends to "schedule your coloring appointment two weeks prior to your wedding day. This tends to be the best time. That way you have no roots but your hair cut has grown just enough to hold curl the whole night".
For hair preparation, when is the best time to wash my hair?
"It really depends on your hair. Some people have really oily hair that would need to be washed that morning because the hair will not hold a curl if there is a lot of oil. Others have really dry hair and could go a few days before washing it. It really comes down to knowing your hair type and discussing what may be best for styling with your hairstylist to get the best hair washing prescription for your hair type," suggests Lanza hair-care educator Amy Freudenberg.
