Crikey! South Park Mocks The Crocodile Hunter (Steve Irwin)

Robert Paul Reyes
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, take a particular delight in offending celebrities, they have skewered everyone from Tom Cruise to Oprah. If you are an egotistical and self-centered celebrity — watch South Park at your peril.

Oprah has a magazine named after herself, a theme song that praises her many virtues and a production company (Harpo) that spells out her name backwards. This arrogant blimp needs to have her ego deflated.

Parker and Stone provide a much-needed public service: A counterbalance to the slavish adoration that the mainstream press lavishes on insipid celebrities.

But now Parker and Stone are being vilified for lampooning the demise of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.

Steve Irwin was a jocular fellow and I’m sorry he met an untimely death, but by the reaction of the press and his fans you would have thought they were mourning the death of Jesus Christ.

A recent South Park episode shows an animated Irwin in Hell with a stingray poking out of his bleeding chest. I’m sorry but if you die in a freakish accident, that’s perfect fodder for a satirical show.

Crikey, get over it Irwin fanatics! South Park is just a bloody cartoon, Irwin fans should focus their anger on more grievous offenses. There’s a bloody (literally) war in Iraq that makes no sense — for example.
