Tiahrt to Receive Defender of Economic Freedom Award

WICHITA, KS - Congressman Todd Tiahrt's (R-Goddard) U.S. Senate campaign today announced that Tiahrt will receive the "Defender of Economic Freedom Award" from the Club for Growth for his rating on their 2009 Congressional Scorecard. Congressman Tiahrt outscored his opponent on the CFG scorecard which ranks each member on their pro-growth, fiscal conservative votes on both the newest 2009 scorecard as well as in the lifetime rating. Cong. Tiahrt and Sen. Roberts will be the only members of the Kansas delegation to receive the "Defender of Economic Freedom Award" for 2009.

"Jerry Moran has tried to deceive the voters of Kansas with the bogus assertion that he is a fiscal conservative, but this scorecard is yet another example which shows that Todd Tiahrt is the only true fiscal conservative in the race for the U.S. Senate," said Michelle Schroeder, spokesperson for the Tiahrt campaign.

"Todd Tiahrt's 2009 score and lifetime score from the Club for Growth illustrate what we have been saying all along - Jerry's election year conversion to conservatism is nothing more than a political calculation to mislead the voters. The Club for Growth, the American Conservative Union and the National Taxpayers Union all score Tiahrt as the most conservative House member of the Kansas delegation. These various ratings show through unbiased research that Todd Tiahrt is the true conservative in this race and a trustworthy representative for the voters of Kansas," concluded Schroeder.

Twenty-two of forty Republican Senators scored 90 percent or better, and fifty-eight House Republicans did the same. Those seventy-nine members will receive the Club's "Defender of Economic Freedom" award later this year.

The Club for Growth is the nation's leading group promoting economic freedom through legislative involvement, issue advocacy, research, and education.

Tiahrt is the leading conservative running to replace Sam Brownback in the United States Senate. He is the only candidate for the Senate who has never voted for a tax increase, and he has been recognized throughout his career for fighting for lower taxes, traditional values and limited government.
