YouCut Project Aims to Stop Out-of-Control Spending in Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today joined her colleagues in the House Republican Economic Recovery Working Group in launching the YouCut program, a first-of-its kind initiative designed to empower local input and change the culture of spending in Washington to a culture of savings.

"Washington´s out-of-control spending binge must stop," said Bono Mack. "With our national deficit at record-high levels, it is clear that we cannot afford to wait any longer to make the tough and necessary decisions to control spending and ensure that our children and grandchildren aren´t left scrambling to pay for our debt.

"The YouCut project is designed to reverse the culture of spending in Washington to a culture of savings. Starting today, people from California´s 45th District and across the country can vote on spending cuts they want to see enacted in Congress. The winning spending cut will then be proposed as an up-or-down vote in the House of Representatives.

"Constituents interested in helping identify excessive government programs or wasteful spending can now have direct input on ways to save the government money."
