South Shore Lake Travis Luxury Neighborhoods

Sam Chapman
Lake Travis is one of the most sought after places to own real estate in Texas. The lake is 63 miles long and has all kinds of communities and homes built on its shores. Some of the neighborhoods were built for living in luxury and a few on the south side of the Lake will be reviewed here. Some people will be full-time residents, but many will be second home owners.

Vineyard Bay is a hidden luxury community on Lake Travis just west of Austin. Vineyard Bay was developed in the mid 1990s and is almost completely built. Few of the 90 home sites have yet to be built on. Amenities in Vineyard Bay include tennis courts, a basketball court, a fitness center, offices a community pool and a marina. Vineyard Bay homes currently range in price from around $700,000 for interior homes to around $4 million for those with Lake Travis frontage.

Costa Bella is a gated, private, master-planned community on Lake Travis neighboring Vineyard Bay. Costa Bella homes are typically from around 6,000 to over 10,000 square feet in size. Current prices range from over $1 million to almost $5 million. Most Costa Bella homes feature Mediterranean style architecture. Costa Bella has a nice clubhouse with a pool, tennis courts and a private marina. Both Costa Bella and Vineyard Bay are served by the excellent Lake Travis ISD schools.

Arbolago is a gated community with Lake Travis access through a 19 acre waterfront park. Home sites are around one acre or more. Some homes will feature Lake Travis views and some will have private back yards with lavish pools and outdoor living areas. A hiking trail winds through Arbolago, giving residents a private area to stroll through the woods.

The city of Lakeway is just south of Vineyard Bay, Costa Bella and Arbolago. Although not entirely a luxury community, Lakeway features some wonderful luxury homes. Many of these will be on Lake Travis with stunning views. Others will feature golf course views. Lakeway has a wonderful waterfront city park that has an excellent July 4 holiday bash complete with an excellent fireworks display. Lakeway also features 4 golf courses, a swim center and skate park for the kids and a variety of hiking trails. There are also two very nice marinas in Lakeway. The newest part of Lakeway is Rough Hollow , which will host the 2010 Parade of Homes this coming October.

There are additional luxury neighborhoods on the south shore of Lake Travis, but those will be featured in another article.
