Elisabeth Edwards: I’m More Joyful Than Hillary Clinton
She and I are from the same generation. We both went to law school and married other lawyers, but after that we made other choices. I think my choices have made me happier. I think I’m more joyful than she is.”
Elisabeth Edwards, wife of likely Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, referring to Hillary Clinton.
Only by closing his eyes and stopping his ears can an intelligent and aware person find any joy in this crazy and mixed up world.
In days gone by people would think you were a stark raving fool, if you testified, “I’m so joyful, God I’m more joyful than most people.” Because happiness was not an all-consuming goal; folks were too preoccupied with making ends meet and pleasing their deity.
But in this prosperous and materialistic society, fools have plenty of time to contemplate their navels and meditate on their own happiness.
Only an idiot would brag about being joyful, and only an insensitive idiot would boast about being more joyful than somebody else.
Edwards realized how foolish her statement was and apologized to Hillary Clinton.
From the Associated Press:
Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson said Elizabeth Edwards called the New York Democrat on Friday night just after she finished a debate in Rochester, N.Y., against Republican challenger John Spencer.
Elizabeth Edwards called her and apologized,’ Wolfson said. “They had a good conversation.
The senator thanked her for the call and wished her well on her book tour’, Wolfson said.”
Elisabeth Edwards, a born again Christian, seems to be obsessed with being joyful. Christians are always bragging about how much “joy in the Lord” they possess. I don’t give a rat’s ass about “being joyful”, I only want to make a difference in this world.
Pursuing happiness is the errand of a fool, a wise man lives by the Golden Rule, and perhaps he will find a measure of contentment.
