Tips In Installing A New Washing Machine

I am sure you are getting your load of washing machine installation guide from the manual included in your washer set. The newer washers today, especially those already with built-in ventless dryers are pretty straightforward and easy to install. But still, many of us fail to do it correctly.

There are a few hazy points in installing a new washer. And this is the best time to clear them out completely:

1. How tight are you going to attach the standpipes and the hose?

Naturally, you would want to install it with just the right tightness. Not too tight and not too loose. Either way, you will have a leaky washer on your hands. Many people opt to use a pipe plier to secure water hose. But installation guide advices users not to do this. You are not getting the right feel of the tightness. As a result you might over-tighten the washer hose. When this happens, water pressure build-up might cause damage to the rubber seal in the hose. To test if you have attached hose correctly, wait for at least 15 minutes when running an empty cycle in your washer. This is enough time to find out if leaks are going to happen.

2. Cold and hot water valves on cold and hot water source

My hot water valve is not working! My cold water source is leaking! These are common washer problems. And usually, poor cold and hot water valve installation is the problem. If you have both a hot and cold water source, do not interchange the two. Make sure you refer to your user manual which one is the hot water valve and the cold water valve. If you only have a cold water valve in your washer but you have both a cold and hot water source, you need to connect the cold water valve to the cold water source and just seal the hot water source so it will not leak in the future. If you have only a cold water source but your washer has both a hot and cold water valve, purchase Y-connector. This will connect the two valves and you can attach the end to the cold water source.

3. How do I push my washing machine?

If your washer has casters or your floor is pretty smooth, you can easily push washer evenly. If not, ask the help of someone so you both can carry the washer to its right place. Do not tilt the washer or turn it upside down or sideways. If you don´t have someone with you to help you out, walk the washer. Move it from one side to the other.
