Are You Mesmerized By Some Of Those Calls You Get On Your Cellular Telephone?

Judy Ramsook
The cellular telephone is a refreshing convenience. No longer do people have to go in search of the nearest pay phone when they need to make a call, especially if they happen to own a cellular telephone.

For the business person, it is also an effective tool, all in the name of progress. If the teenager in your home is out on a date and needs to reach you, the parent/guardian, he/she can do so without the added stress of having to go in search of a pay phone. In fact, nowadays with so many cellular telephones in use, it might be quite a challenge to locate a pay phone in certain areas. All that is fine, but what happens when some persons in our midst become sort of mesmerized with all that attention they are receiving via their cellular telephone?

This became apparent to me while I was out the other day with a relative. His cellular telephone rang. Apparently he, the relative I was with was so enthusiastic to receive a call from whomever the caller was that he became a little mesmerized by the attention he was receiving. For I witnessed him behave in such a fashion as I had not expected or seen before, especially for a phone call. The following is what occurred:

Upon talking eagerly about the goings on in his life to this individual, my relative absentmindedly pulled the vehicle into the car park (parking lot) of the nearest grocery store, parked the car, turned off the engine and continued chatting to the other person on the end of the call. This went on for about five to ten minutes.

My kin then started the engine, pulled out of the grocery store car park and drove home where he sat in the driveway, yes, still chatting with this person who called him.

On my way into the house from the vehicle, I began to wonder did he mean to go to the grocery store to get some item or did he pull in there because of the telephone call?

Later on when I asked him that very question, he seemed totally unaware and stunned of the things he had done upon receiving the telephone call, including sitting in the grocery store car park for about ten minutes or so.

If a similar occurrence has taken place with you or some one you know, you might be a little mesmerized by some of those calls you or your kin is receiving on those cellular telephones.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with pulling in to the nearest car park to chat on the cellular telephone. It can save one from being distracted on the road.

But when that sort of thing is done in an absentmined way by the user of the cellular telephone, is it suffice to say that maybe some people are addicted to all that attention they are receiving every time their cellular telephone rings, vibrates or receives a text message?

It seems like some people are so addicted to the cellular telephone attention aspect that they tend to act in ways they do not recall, unless of course a friend or relative is there to witness such strange behaviour.

People who have telephones, have them because they want or expect people to call them. It’s almost as exciting as going to the mail box and seeing a letter addressed to you, something that is not a bill or bit of junk mail, that is.

Like I stated earlier in this article, cellular telephones are good to have, but do not allow them to make you do strange things, especially things you cannot recall unless some one is there to witness and remind you of your absentminded actions later on.
