The Impact Of Global Warming

Tim Williams
Global warming is continuing to cause enormous devastation on the worlds economies particularly in countries like India. India today, is relying on their agriculture sector for about 1/5 of their GDP. This industry alone employees over 60% of India's population. Now, the problem of ensuring India's continued economic growth is greatly hampered due to the fact that their rainy season has produce so little rainfall this year over 280 districts were forced to declare drought conditions. This season alone a 30% decline of rainfall has put many of India's population in serious jeopardy of loosing the amount of wages that they need to avoid a real financial and economic disaster that has already arisen due directly to the lack of rain from their monsoon season. All of which is a direct result of global warming.

The economic conditions in countries like India rely on their agriculture as a very important and large part of their total GDP. So when any disruption of nature in normal seasonal occurrences happen total countries economic, financial and social structures suffer. Today, in India their economic future is also tied directly the the overall financial stability of Europe and the United States and their financial institutions. When the banking crisis of 2008 hit, India also suffered financial losses. It was only through their farming and agriculture sector that kept India from falling deeper in debt. That year the conditions were less severe than they are today but, in every preceding year for the past few years the rainy season has steadily been declining to now the whole country is feeling the effects of what global warming can do the the country's economy.

It is the impact of global warming that renders countries economies almost helpless against the natural calamities that are caused by man's un quenching thirst for their increased consumption of fossil fuels at alarming rates every year. The carbon dioxide that is a direct result of burning fossil fuels adds more heat into the atmosphere which is trapped thus creating more temperature increases around the globe. This sets off a chain reaction felt by every nation and every living thing on this planet.

The recent find of a large oil deposit under Paris, France and the outright attempt to garnish this reserve only further encourages more consumption on fossil fuels which further accelerates climate change. Compounding this situation is the fact that the United States is also undergoing a major shift in policy sanctioning oil drilling off our coasts. This not only pushes back any attempt at developing alternative fuel sources. Another disturbing factor to consider is all this depletion of oil from under the earths crust creates vast voids that may have a direct influence in how the tectonic plates shift that are causing the recent surge in earthquakes around the globe.

Ever since the industrial revolution man has begun creating the unbalance in the earths atmosphere with the increasing use of fossil fuels. The depletion of the vast rain forests particularly in the Amazon have only accelerated global warming and now have made it impossible for the earth to keep the atmospheric temperature from rising. With the continued depletion of our forests and more consumption of fossil fuels the conditions around the world will only worsen leaving countries economic futures in doubt.

Just recently what happened in the Great Barrier Reef off of Australia is just another indication of the enormous impact oil spills can have on the environment. In this case and like the Valdez tragedy off Alaska the environment will never be the same and all life forms suffer needlessly. It would be the most effective and environmentally safe form of energy production instead of more oil rigs being placed around the world Wind Turbines could be just as effective and would produce more energy than any oil rid would ever produce. Along with Solar farms and the use of hydrogen fuel sources there would be no need to ever consume as much fossil fuels that the world uses now.

When nations of the world use the natural sources of renewable fuel that is so abundant with the technologies of today their is no excuse to ever revert back to the production and consumption of fossil fuels that are causing this planet irrevocable harm. Policies have to change now before it really is too late.
