SOMETHING WORTH THINKING ABOUT!
But that's not the half of it! The Pentagon's haul does not include fighting a war! War is over and above all of that. For example, the $383 billion for our President's war that was based on lies and planned in great detail by the President's men long before they were placed in office. That war in Iraq is all above budget -- he's putting that on the credit cards of our kids and grandkids.
Did you know that there is a group called Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities who would like to trim just $60 billion of the fat, pork, and pure lard that now goes to the likes of Boeing, Lockheed, and Halliburton for weaponry boondoggles that don't work and aren't needed.
This group's mission is to change US budget priorities to reflect a national commitment to education, healthcare, energy independence, job training and deficit reduction -- at no additional taxpayer expense -- by eliminating funding for unneeded Cold War era weapons systems. This wouldn't take a dime from our troops fighting Bush's war -- and it would still leave the Pentagon Brass with more money than the rest of the world combined spends on their military programs.
The BLSP group is composed of business people. They know budgets and bureaucracies and large institutions, and they understand the influence that large sums of money can have on an organization such as government. They know that large programs can live on for years after the need has changed, stealing money from more pressing needs. They have a practical solution: By working together as business people through BLSP, they have the power to get their voice heard by the media, by politicians, and by the public. They believe that it is their civic duty to use that voice in service to the children of our country and of the world.
Just think what this $60 billion slice could do! It could provide Head Start for every child in America, guarantee health care for every child, rebuild every single American school, establish energy independence for our country through renewable fuels...and so much more. Are you aware of the fact that the United States now ranks 44th in the world in infant mortality, behind all the nations of Western Europe and the industrialized Far East, behind the former Yugoslav republic of Slovenia, and even behind communist Cuba.
All I ask is that you ponder these facts for awhile dear friends!
