John G. Roberts Jr. -- Let The Games Begin

Ken Hughes
Liberals in and out of the Senate have begun their attacks on the nominee, Judge John G. Roberts Jr. They’ve gone back to the years he served in the Reagan administration to begin the inquisition into his past. Senator Dick Durbin and his ilk cry for justice and redemption of terrorists. Yet they’re willing to persecute a respected member of the judiciary. Senator Ted Kennedy will be one of the interrogators at the conformation hearings, it’s interesting July 19, 2005 is the 36th anniversary of Teddy’s allegedly murdering, [by depraved indifference] Mary Jo Kopechne. It’s worth pointing this out because of the Senators behavior immediately after the incident. 1] Senator Kennedy left the scene of the incident, 2] Senator Kennedy lied about the facts of the incident, 3] Senator Kennedy engaged law enforcement officers in a cover up, 4] Senator Kennedy has never been held accountable for the incident. 5] Senator Kennedy has yet, 36 years later too apologize or shown any remorse to the Kopeckne family. [I’ve deliberately called this an incident, Senator Kennedy was allegedly drunk at the time of the incident.] Senator Kennedy wants to know all the details of every thought Judge Roberts has had over the years. Do you have no shame Senator Kennedy?

Every Senator knows Judge John G. Roberts, will be confirmed, already they’re lining up to congratulate him. Why is the Senate playing this game? It’s a delaying tactic to keep from passing meaningful legislation that’ll benefit the president and his party.

In crafting the world first democracy, by the people, for the people, of the people. The founding fathers took their time [15 years] crossing T’s dotting I’s, making sure the documents they left for posterity would stand the tides of time. Those documents have been perverted in recent years by a political philosophy that places government above the people. The courts have become the enablers of liberalism that encroaches on the guarantees established by the founding fathers.

John G. Roberts can be the first step in restructuring the courts back to their original purpose, administering law, not making laws. The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 has been used to circumvent the constitution in more than a few cases. Abortion being the most perverse of all. The Constitution doesn’t guarantee many rights. The founding fathers chose instead to limit what government could do. The constitution says any function not specifically authorized by the constitution becomes the right of the state to regulate. They left much for state constitutions to decide the course they would take.

Paraphrasing Dr. Bill Bennett. The Federal Government [Washington bureaucracy] is like a giant barge going down the Mississippi River, The President [Captain,] shouts orders, the Helmsmen [Congress] steer right and steer left, the barge continues un-cooperating down the center of the river. The barge is eternal the Captain, and the Helmsman are temporary,

Unless Chief Justice Rehnquist turns out to be another Justice William O. Douglas who left the court debilitated by a stroke after 36 years. He never the less left kicking and screaming, It looks as if President Bush will have a second bit at the apple. It will be his opportunity to redefine a liberal court to a conservative court and set the nation on the road to the 21st Century and beyond.

God willing!
