Sometimes Obama Seems so Smart, and Then Other Times...
Obama's health care triumph is a triumph, but he's continuing two wars just like George Bush. Why? Why is he progressive on one hand, and business-as-usual reactionary on the other?
Is it because for all his talk of change and "yes we can," he's basically just another FDR New Deal Democrat? He certainly isn't a libertarian.
Obama said he would destroy Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. First of all, this is impossible. We can conquer more ground, and claim we have them on the run. But utterly destroy them?
Has Israel been able to destroy the Palestinian movement?
As a tax payer, I must have some inkling when he makes these claims how he's going to do it, destroy them. That means destroy, root-and-branch, completely, totally. The problem with this is, as it is with any insurgency, all they, the bad guys, have to do is survive.
Destroying totally is always more difficult than merely surviving.
My question to Obama is this. Do thousands more Afghans have to die as they did in Iraq because a group of Saudi vagabonds and their Taliban supporters plotted a terrorist act in Afghanistan? How many Afghans were in on the plot? Out of the total population?
When you say "destroy," what do you mean? How are you going to accomplish this, and when will it occur?
How much time do you need? Will we have a thirty-year war? Sounds depressingly like the Bush years.
If Obama has the intention to leave me and the American people out of the loop like Bush did and make vague statements like "have patience," or "we're making progress," or "we've turned a corner," or "we have them on the run" (Custer said this at Little Big Horn). If he thinks he's to follow his predecessor in this manner, then it's a case of, "no, we can't."
The bigger question is, how long will the American people, the herd of sheep, go along obediently with a war that lasts forever, and never reaches a definitive conclusion. Whatever we do, conquering ground, bombing with drones, all the rest, our opponents will give ground, re-shape, take to the hills, go into hiding, and survive and wait us out as they have in hundreds of earlier invasions. When is it time to say we've killed enough and gotten enough revenge for 9-11, and ask the regime in Kabul to take full responsibility for their future?
Mr. Obama I'm waiting for an answer. I'm still waiting.
No more "Light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel statements. Bush did that.
I'm waiting.
