Writer's Block, Is It Nature's Way Of Saying You Need A Break?

Judy Ramsook
As humans, we are constantly on the go. If we are not busy going somewhere, we are doing something indoors or outdoors. Sometimes, if some of us are at a place in our lives when there is nothing to do, we may tend to feel somewhat lost or useless. For some persons think they have to be doing something every waking moment of the day or night, it’s what keeps them going. They might not practise relaxation at all.

What happens though when a writer suffers from writer’s block? Is it nature’s way of saying you, the writer needs a break? It might be, for some people are rather persistent when it comes to the matter of a hobby or favourite past time. That past time could be reading, listening to music, playing an addictive video game or as the case may be, writing.

Most writers become discouraged when faced with a bout of writer’s block. They want to write something so badly, but place them in front of their computer or pen and paper, and the page remains blank for minutes, hours or even days.

Of course, there are some persons who will use this time to get in touch with some old friends and or relatives, take in a movie at the local cinema or pursue something that has nothing at all to with writing.

Sometimes, doing this is what can lead one back to the computer or pen and paper because persistence may be one thing, but it’s when we take a break from what we do constantly, or are forced to do so, is when we are able to see old things in a new light.

And coming down with a case of writer’s block just might be a way for that writer to take a break.

For some people become so wrapped up in what they are doing that sooner or later, they find themselves losing sleep and not nourishing their bodies properly.

So much so that the body suffers a sort of breakdown. Do not let this happen to you, and do not look at writer’s block at being such a bad thing.

It just might be one way for your mind to tell you that it is indeed time for a break. A much needed one at that.
