TIAHRT ENDORSES SECOND AMENDMENT BALLOT INITIATIVE

Congressional Desk
WICHITA, KS - Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) announced his endorsement of the Second Amendment ballot initiative slated to appear on the November ballot. The Kansas Legislature overwhelming passed the initiative last session to cement the right of the individual to bear arms in the Kansas Constitution. The Kansas Constitution currently states, "The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security" which was interpreted in a 1905 Supreme Court decision to mean collectively, not individually. If approved in November the Constitution will read, "A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, for lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any other lawful purpose."

Tiahrt stated, "I strongly support the November ballot initiative to further strengthen the Kansas Constitution in regards to our individual right to bear arms. Our Founding Fathers believed that our right to keep and bear arms was fundamental to our very freedom as a people. I urge Kansans to support the Yes on 1 Ballot Initiative by helping to educate and inform their friends and neighbors about this important vote."

Patricia Stoneking, President of the Kansas State Rifle Association said, "In 1993, as a State Senator Todd Tiahrt introduced the first ever concealed carry law in Kansas. His bold leadership has continued for the past 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives where Todd has fought tirelessly to protect and preserve the Second Amendment. We are excited and humbled that Todd Tiahrt will help continue to lead the charge for the Second Amendment in the State of Kansas by supporting the Yes on 1 Ballot Initiative."
