Arizona Retailers Benefit from Lift in New Home Sales

According to a recent article in the Arizona Republic, "the past two months have produced more [new home] sales than any comparable period in the past two years". Area home builders aren´t the only industry benefiting from the recent lift. Retail outlets specializing in home furnishings and design services are also getting a boost. Phoenix based, Furniture Affair, the Model Home Outlet, has experienced the upturn first hand.

"As a model home outlet, we have relationships with many of the large, and small, builders in the community," explains founder, Nancy Rhodes. "We provide them with staging services for their model homes; and consignment services when those homes sell. Our success is tied to theirs." However, home builders only provide the inventory; consumer spending drives the market.

As seasonal residents again choose Arizona as an economical choice for their second homes, they are bringing their consumer dollars to furnish those homes. "Many of our new design clients are from out of state," reports Furniture Affair lead designer, Jon LaDosz. "They come to our store for our great deals and when they discover we also offer interior design services they´re hooked." Jon is currently working with several clients from Canada. His colleagues have clients in Mexico and San Diego.
