Better Late than Never: Autographed Baseball Card Request Returned 16 Years Later

He was 7 years-old when he wrote a letter to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Don Carman, asking him to autograph his brand new 1990 Topps card. Doug Ferraro is now 23. Guess what showed up in the mail this week?

Like a ship in a bottle, a long-ago autograph request washed ashore at the home of it's sender this week. It may not be a record for turnaround time, but it has to be close.

Journeyman pitcher Don Carman had been clearing out his garage in Florida when he came across a box of 200 or so fan letters he'd gotten in the mail during his career but never answered.


Carman, long-since retired, dutifully answered them, including the one from the class project young Doug had been participating in during the Presidency of George H.W. Bush.
