Electronics & Electrical Engineering Colleges in India

Sarita Yadav

Electrical Engineering is often clubbed with Electronics Engineering. It may or may not be similar. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) is the study of electricity basically. It involves the theory and application of the electronics and electromagnetism. Electronics engineering deals with how the knowledge of the behavior of electrons can be utilized to create components, systems, devices and equipments, all of which use electricity as the driving force. Electronics and electrical engineering colleges in India are aimed at teaching that concentrates more on the subject Physics and is a core engineering field.

EEE includes the designing of electrical and electronic systems. A distinction that did not exist earlier, differentiates the two in broader terms. Electrical engineering typically deals with problems of large scale electrical systems, for example power transmission. And small scale electrical systems come under the ambit of electronics engineering, like computers. Electrical engineers use electricity in the transmission of energy, and electronic engineers use electricity in the transmission of information.

To enroll into an engineering college in India, you should take up science, with physics, chemistry, and mathematics combination, at the plus two level. Admission to an engineering institute is usually on the basis of an entrance examination. After a B Tech, you can either start working right-a-way, or enroll for M Tech. You can also opt for higher studies and research. You will find employment in branch specific industries, where the work is interesting, challenging and concept based. The core industries provide ample opportunities that you need not laterally shift to another field.

Top 5 Electronics & Electrical Engineering Colleges:

1. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)

Admission to B. Tech. in the seven branches of IIT (Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Guwahati, Mumbai, Chennai, Roorkee), is on the basis of the Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) conducted by IIT. And for M. Tech., admission is based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Eligibility for undergrad is science in plus two, and for master's, Bachelor's in engineering.

2. National Institute of Technology (NIT)

At the B. Tech level, NIT bases its admission on the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), applicable only for science students. For master's, a B. Tech in engineering is essential (to apply for GATE).

3. Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS), Pilani

BITS has campus in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad and Dubai. Admission to bachelor's program is on the basis of entrance examination conducted by the institute. Post graduation admission is dependent on an online entrance test, followed by an interview.

4. Institute of Technology, Varanasi

IT-BHU is affiliated to the Benares Hindu University (BHU). Undergraduate admission is on the basis of the the IIT JEE, and post graduate admission is on the GATE score.

5. Delhi Technological University, Delhi

Famous as the Delhi College of Engineering or DCE till recently, and affiliated to the University of Delhi, DTU is an autonomous institute today. It conducts its own entrance examination for admissions. It is a highly sort after college.
