When Should Cops Profile?

The feel good "entirely at random" searches of subway commuters in the Big Apple continue. New York's finest have explained their search protocols to assure the public (and any terrorist paying attention) that police officers were not profiling young men who look like they might hail from the Middle East, North Africa or other hotbeds of Muslim brotherhood in the Third World.

In a democracy as great as ours profiling would only make sense if:

The London bombers fit the profile of the 9/11 hijackers, who could easily have been mistaken for the Madrid bombers, who looked like those in the al-Qaeda cell at Lodi, who fit the profile of the USS Cole attackers, who are dead ringers for the fellows who blew up our embassies in Africa, any one of whom could be confused with the millennium bomber, who matches the profiles of the first World Trade Center bombers, who look just like the Khobar Towers killers, who would be right at home with the terrorists locked up at Gitmo, who have complexions and hair color very similar to the Bali bombers, who ...
