Electric Shower Installation

It might sound absurd to have a shower that runs on electricity, but if installed correctly, it is a good financial bet to save money and water. In order to install an electric shower, you would require a double pole-pull switch of 45 amps and green and yellow wire sleeving. The first step towards electric shower installation is plumbing. Let´s begin with the area where the shower unit will be installed. Mark the points on the wall of the bathroom, where you would drill holes, using the template provided by your manufacturer. In case the manufacturer hasn´t given any template, backing of the shower unit can be removed and the backing itself can be used as a template.

Now, with the help of appropriate masonry bit and using the holes as guide marks, drill pilot holes on the wall. Now, to connect the main water valve and the shower head, you should drill a hole in the shower wall measuring 1/2 inches. This will be used for fitting a copper branch pipe that will act as a connector. Next step is fitting the T-point on rising main, ensuring that you hand tighten the cap nuts. If the T point is required to be connected with the stopcock, connecting the main valve and the copper branch point, you can do so by measuring and connecting an extra length of connecting pipe. Once all the fittings are in place, hand tightening of cap nuts and other joints must be done. Now you can mount the shower head on the end of branch pipe. Now, to the side of shower head, on the wall where you had drilled pilot holes, the shower unit should be installed. In the last step of plumbing for electric shower installation, you should connect the flexible hose pipe with the shower head and the shower unit.

The next part of electric shower installation is electrical fittings. In the ceiling, drill holes between joints for mounting the pull switch. Attach a mounting board for fastening the back plate of the pull switch. Now, running a circuit cable through mounting board, take it up to the ceiling. Ensure that you leave back at least six inches of cable in excess for the switch position. In the next step, you attach the back plate of the pull switch and strip the excess wire at switch position. This will reveal number of bare wires including a red wire and a black one. Twist all the bare wires together, and the ground wires, then cover them with the green and yellow sleeving. Now attach these wires to terminal E on the pull switch. Similarly, you should connect the red wire to the terminal L and black wire to terminal N. In the final step of electric shower installation, strip the shower unit wire. This will again reveal the same set of wires as in the earlier step. Now the wires of the shower unit must be joined to the mains terminal on the pull switch. Cover all bare wires with green and yellow sleeving before connecting them. Connect red wire to terminal L, black wire to terminal N and all bare wires to the terminal E. With this you will complete the procedure of electric shower installation.
