What cell phones did to communication, the same has been done to music by the mp3 technology. With the advent of the digitized music and audio files, came the inventions of the mp3 players, or should I say, mp3 portable players, because of the portability offered not just in terms of movement but also the various file formats these players are capable of playing. Their small and compact size makes it easy for them to be carried around without much effort. Another reason why mp3 portable players have revolutionized the way we listen to music is because of their sheer capacity to store music. They could sort almost all your favorite music and still have some space left.
The portability factor makes it easy for you to be with your music, while on the move. While jogging, or travelling, or while at home, these players offer you music with the best possible quality, because they are based on the mp3 technology, which makes it enable to compress a huge music file on an audio CD to a tenth its size, still retaining its quality and clarity. Since the mp3 is in digital form, it does not matter how many copies you make out of one mp3 file, the quality will always remain the same.
These mp3 portable players hold many advantages over the usual, and now, almost extinct, cassette players and CD systems.
While doing recording on cassettes was extremely tiresome, and the song tended to lose quality after 2-3 copies, losing out on clarity part. In case of CDs, we needed to carry different CDs for different artistes and varied genres, all at the same time, because we never knew what we might want to hear some time. Moreover, no matter how great care you took of your discs, they were bound to get scratched sooner or later, which would then jump and skip while playing songs, leading you to lose out on some of your most prized and loved songs.

The mp3 finally gave us the choice of selecting the songs we wanted to listen, and downloading only those. In such a way, we could have a collection of our favorite songs compiled together in a small and portable player, which could be taken and played anywhere. So, over the years, the mp3 players have made the listeners the masters of the game, giving them total control over what they do and don´t listen to.
